I think these are cool - there are several other players on these who helped promote the gloves kids wanted to wear with the signatures of their favorite players like Brooks Robinson, Tommy Davis, Dick Groat, Warren Spahn, Ken Boyer, Tom Tresh, Billy Williams (plus later Bill White) and of course, Mickey Charles Mantle on the gloves. These photos accompanied their respective gloves.

Born this day in 1949 in Atlanta, "The Hammer" was third in Rookie of the year voting in 1972 and played post season ball for every team he played for. He was the hammer because he looked like Hammerin' Hank of the Braves. Probably most famous for outing Willie Mays for taking amphetamines during the 1985 Pittsburgh drug scandal, arguably the second biggest scandal in baseball history!
You bring some interesting cards and stories to the table. Some I'm familiar with and some I'm not. Thank you!
Thanks Coarsegold! Love the card a day post.
Happy 57th birthday to seven time gold glover and 3 time All Star Devon White! "Devo" is in the rare steal second, third and home club by doing that in the sixth inning in a game vs. Rich Gedman and the Red Sox. Changed his name back to Devon Whyte, his original, after he retired. Finally a 1987 Topps sighting!

This 10-card set highlighted players that seemed destined for the Hall of Fame. Cards were embossed and die-cut to resemble a Hall of Fame plaque and card-fronts were printed on brown holographic foil with a serial-numbered stamp. Each card is numbered to 100 copies.
Happy 84th Birthday Sanford Braun! Last name changed when he was 9. Never pitched in the minors and they demoted Tommy Lasorda when he joined Brooklyn. Threw last pitch for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1957, a strikeout of course. Three time triple crown winner, two World Series MVP. Yogi Berra said in 1963, " I can see him winning 25 games but how did he lose 5?"
Tallulah Bankhead — 'There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.'
Happy 58th birthday Rick Aguilera! Member of the 300 save club, three time All-Star. Went from losing to winning pitcher when the ball got through Buckner in '86 World Series. In June of 1993, he faced 42 batters, retired 23 in a row allowed 2 hits and one walk and a 0.00 ERA!
Tallulah Bankhead — 'There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.'
One of two Hall of Famers to be a New Year's baby (Tim Keefe is the other), Hank Greenberg was the first star player to enlist in WWII and served more time in the service than any ball player (47 months!). He almost certainly would be in the 500 homer club if he had not missed 4 1/2 years! On the final day of the season in 1945 he hit a grand slam to win the pennant for the Tigers, three months after returning from the war! First opposing player to give encouragement to Jackie Robinson and the first $100,000 player.
Tallulah Bankhead — 'There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.'
I have an Ivan Putski that I am hoping to upgrade from my time working with Dpeck and Gregg back in August but this is the highest graded to date. This Putski is tough to find in high grade and I would be thrilled to have a PSA DNA 8 card signed. I also bonded with Ivan while working with him and plan to meet him for lunch next time I fly into Austin TX.

Happy 57th Birthday Coney! Played on 5 World Series champions, author of a perfect game, two time twenty game winner and a five time All-Star. Born in KC and started out with the Royals who then made possibly the worst trade in their history and sent him to the Mets. He once argued with an umpire while two runs scored. Accused of rape and then gang rape and then a scandal of sex acts in the bullpen! Was AL union rep during '94 strike year and is now the lead color guy on the Yankees TV broadcasts.
Tallulah Bankhead — 'There have been only two geniuses in the world. Willie Mays and Willie Shakespeare.'
Happy 74th Birthday Archie Reynolds! Never won or saved a game in 5 years and 36 appearances. His first career start he did strike out Willie Mays! He left with the lead and runners on but next pitcher gave up a three run homer to Bobby Bonds.
This great card has all Reynolds rookies, all pitched with the Brewers from '71 to'73 but were never on the roster together and never won a game. All three were born in January and not related! They combined for a career win loss record of 21-53. For the record Bob was fantastic in 1973 with Baltimore.

This 44-card insert set was issued in two series of 22 cards, and were randomly inserted in both packs and factory sets. Collectors had two ways to collect the set: either through individual cards, or redemption cards that were good for either 11, 22, or all 44 cards. The winner cards, which were available in A, B, C, D, A/B, C/D, and A/B/C/D variations, were redeemable until January 31, 1995. Collectors who mailed in a redemption card received a winner checklist card along with their set. The front of the checklist card looks similar to the redemption card; the only difference is the addition word "certified" located in the lower right corner. The backs of the checklist cards contain a checklist for that particular group, where the backs in the winner cards contained congratulatory text and space for your address.
Born this day in 1930.A vastly underrated pitcher, McMahon was the oldest pitcher in the majors in 1973 when at age 43 as the pitching coach for the Giants he went 4-0 with a sparkling 1.48 ERA! He died with his cleats on suffering a heart attack while throwing batting practice at Dodger Stadium at age 57.

He hated batters, being taken out games and losing, often trashing locker rooms. He even threw a ball at a manager while being removed for a reliever! A pitching coach and a broadcaster as well. He was upset at voters for not being inducted in the Hall on the first ballot calling it the "Hall of Shame".

Happy 67th Birthday To Hall Of Famer, 6 time All-Star, Cy Young award winner and four time relief pitcher of the year Bruce Sutter! Struck out Gorman Thomas in the ninth to win World Series in '82. 300 save club and only him and Mariano Rivera are in Cooperstown with #42 except for Jackie Robinson. 2020 is last year he gets paid from an amazing free agent contract he signed with the Braves in 1985 that paid him 1.3 mil. for thirty years after his 6 year contract expired!

Happy 85th Birthday Bob "Ach" Duliba! Decent little pitcher who one day won a game with a home run but didn't get the win! He was out of baseball when in in the early seventies A's owner Charlie Finley brought him up for the 29 days he needed to get his pension. He just threw batting practice but is still collecting it to this day. One of the nicest things I've ever read about the A's owner.

A number of additional Crusade cards were produced by Donruss for future 1998 and 1999 baseball card sets, but were never officially released due to the bankruptcy of Pinnacle Brands. All players in the Crusade set were to have two styles for all three colors: a "base" and "Call to Arms" (CTA) subset. Happy 69th Birthday "Mad Dog"! 4 time batting champ, 3 time All Star, All Star MVP and member of the 1979 "We are Family" World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates! Happy 69th Birthday "Mad Dog"! 4 time batting champ, 3 time All Star, All Star MVP and member of the 1979 "We are Family" World Champion Pittsburgh Pirates! It seems like he was forever getting suspended, starting fights with teammates, opposing players and umpires. In early 1979 he famously told Rod Carew not to sign with the Giants as SF was very near a trade with the Twins so Carew went to the Angels instead.
