I just found out about this coin after owning it for years. So excited.
The artist of this coin stated this comment:
"I was out at the mint to find one of our old display boxes and came across some old ones. I remember now. That reverse side was created to inlay into the tops of our early display boxes. in order to make them quickly and so they would strike up easier, I made two identical dies except the other one had a larger screw press in the middle. Only one side would show and they didn't need to be real thick, so by striking two at a time, it made them easier to strike and we could strike them twice as fast. Later, we went to more specific medallions to designate 1794 and 1796 date sets. So this piece mated with the Liberty Cap Obverse was made just as an oddity for the auction. Probably less than 10 or 20 were produced."
Love all the posts in this thread. Here are some of Ron’s wizard moon designs I’ve acquired over the years. The Brass pieces are medals, pendents, and buttons he sold at Renaissance fairs back in the day, pre gallery mint I believe. One of the buttons is copper, and the cut out pendant I think is pewter. I was happy to see he brought back the design recently in the 1,2, & 3oz hot struck silver medals shown at the top of the pic.
I want to thank @LukeMarshall for these super neat GMM Gold Half Eagles. Interesting backstory and I must say my favorite is the uncirculated example, sooooo pretty.
.
I did the images so you can see the third side to the medals. The edge reeding.
Ron Landis made several versions of Concept Dollars. Here is a report from the Gallery Mint from November, 1997 describing their production.
Apparently, the thin planchet 2000 dated Flowing Hair Liberty Obverse is the scarcest as there was never a production run, only test pressings or artists proofs.
I have like 25 to 30 struck from this die pair. Sourced back in that day direct for $6 a pop. I was so happy to get goodies without a COPY punch so I kept ordering more...
Having a Concept in PCGS slab made it a must have for my Gallery Mint Archive.
I added a dozen Landis and Rust creations in 2023.
Any one notice all the counterfeit gallery mint items selling last 3 months on flea bay ? The poorly made production of various items is at full tilt. Same crap over and over again... I cannot believe anyone who follows Landis, Rust, Gallery Mint is falling prey to the poor quality material. I've seen bad 1995 Concepts and 1794 Dollars.

On the contrary, Google is not your friend.

I took my extra 1996 Landis hobo Nickle and made a ring.
