XRF'd to confirm content. All my gold got tested. USA Mint issue 24K got paid spot. USA Mint 90% cashed out at 90% spot. Everything else made 80% of its gold content. Silver that was then plated gold was based on just silver content.
Thus, non-USA Mint made 24k Gold is at the moment $1775 and ounce less 20% = $1,421 an ounce cash, out the door.
That all said, most items made of silver or gold I would not sell for melt or melt -20%

Thanks @LindyS I wondered how dealers would accept this gold.
Landis edge marked my #13 Gold 5c "24K"
For fun I had local coin shop xrf it when I was selling other metals.
I think he made 17 of them.
Got mine on one of his clearance sales for $950
He does run discount sales from time to time.
Always best idea is go to your local coin shop and ask them what their generic 24k buy price is on this interesting item.

Very interesting @LindyS since the GMM things I was talking about have 24K marked on them.
Hi all, bumped this thread cause I scored a GMM 1794 proof set at a house/garage sale today. I spotted the labeled box in a bin of assorted stuff. The seller advised the coins are replicas, to which I reply I'm okay with that since it's noted on the box. $10. and I'm in my car with my loupe, enjoying the moment. The airtites worked, love the edge letterings. I found the GMM March 2002 newsletter which confirms the set details. Was this set minted in late 2001 or when? Thanks in advance for any info. @ZoidMeister@zoins The hunt continues. Peace Roy

This approach reminds me a bit of Henry Alvin Sharpe's work. I have a few of his pieces, all of which all have his HAS initials which make them easy to identify.

Roy,
I've been otherwise occupied the past few weeks, but I finally got back around to fill in the blanks for you.
You are correct. The 1974 GMM Proof Set reproductions were originally sold in 2001. Ron was going to limit the production to 940 sets, but unknown exactly how many got put together.
For a $10 purchase, you did exceedingly well. I am guessing there is probably 5x that amount of silver in that set.
.
It appears he only doing it for my stuff. I will say because it’s altered, this one is struck in gold instead of silver,
So he uses his initials. It does say two ounces of.999 silver on the others.

It does have the weight and fineness but it seems odd that it's covered by the counterstamp.

Yes, it's because it says 2 ounces fine silver. Mine is 1.75 .999 gold. so, its a perfect place to Reve that and apply his RL initials.

Agreed the standard issue is silver. All I'm saying is that it's an interesting place to put the COPY stamp since it seems to cover the silver content.
Yours is really nice since it doesn't say COPY and the fineness isn't covered.
Ron should consider doing all of his like yours, with his initials and without the COPY stamp, gold or silver.
