It has been a while since I have posted a vintage pick up on here. I have been picking up mostly modern basketball for the last year or so. These two cards are my first foray back into the vintage market in a long time. I grabbed the Hagan RC first and he acted as a sort of gateway card back into the vintage card world. You don't see a card from the 57 Topps basketball set with this kind of centering often. When I saw the Hagan listed for auction I knew it was the perfect card to get my vintage HOF RC collection started again.
When I sold my 1961 set a while back I wasn't sure if I would ever get some of those cards back again as I knew it would cost a lot more to acquire the same cards in the same grades. I saw someone post about acquiring this card on another forum. I messaged them and we came to a deal quickly. I picked this up at the post office today. It compares very favorably to the 7 I used to own.

Slow mail week for me, but I am really happy with the one card that showed up
Abe, wow great looking Iceman. I agree with David looks like a 10 to me also.
Steve,
That Hagen RC is really amazing, I spent a lot of time looking for a copy just like that and never did land one. I sure only a very small handful of those w/ that centering and focus ever surface in a year.
Awesome score on the Wilt RC (seems I had seen that card somewhere), it's good to see you getting back into vintage that is a great start. You have always had a good eye for picking up sharp cards.

I picked these up over the last few weeks. I am working on a 1959 Topps All Star subset. Most are for that set. The others are upgrades to sets that I have completed.

Thanks, Matt. The worst corner of the four is definitely a tad soft for the grade; I think the overall image quality really carried it with the grader. After landing the 52B 8 I am almost done with my run. There's one card I'd love to upgrade and one I am waiting to acquire but have a deal in place with its owner. Then will be excited to share the whole set.
I don't even agree with you that the worst corner is soft for the grade. I think that's a heck of a nice card Matt. I would be quote pleased with that one, and wish I had one like it. I am slowly working on a run myself and will scan them all when I get them back from PSA as they are all getting reholdered. I can t wait to see more.
Working on a Mantle run? Would love to see what you have picked up so far in the run.

Matt— well on your way to an outstanding Mantle run! Each basic issue Mick is such a thrill to add and each so challenging in its own way. You must be so amped to get them in hand and the hunt for the rest is a blast.

I decided that my boys and I will try to collect all the different variations of this card....which seems to be A LOT...but it's cool to say that I was at that game and saw that catch in person.
@pdub1819 As an avid Trout parallel collector myself, I love that plan! To me, the 2016 is by far his coolest Topps base card. Good luck chasing down more with your boys...
Always looking for tougher PSA 10's of Nolan Arenado, Alex Bregman, Mookie Betts, Francisco Lindor, and Mike Trout.
Winning bidder on this recently graded Namath Rookie and it arrived today. Been on the hunt for one for a few years now in a 7.5 which is hard to come by. Beautiful card of "Broadway Joe" and lucky to have it!!

Thank-you Matt. I don’t have the free cash flow that I once had so it’s a challenge to find cards I like and can afford sometimes. The hunt for cards I like is challenging and thrilling at the same time.

PDub, I hope you and your boys enjoy hunting for 2016 Trout cards. That’s a great photo and very cool to be able to do that with your sons. Having been at the game, makes it that much cooler.

That is a fun idea that's achievable, relatively inexpensive, and a fun journey for you and your boys. Great job, and great choice of card to do it with.

Thanks Matt,
The boys have already voiced that they like the parallels better. It should be fun.... and it’s always great to see your pickups.
It amazes me that not one person commented on your gorgeous Wilt. That card has great color and as you know the centering on those cards are normally awful. The centering is pretty damn good. Hats off to your awesome pickup. Basketball cards are so underrated, but I'm sure if It was Mickey Mantle people would have commented on how nice it is. Once again great card.

Buy the card, not the holder. I’m a firm believer in that.
So, I don’t know exactly how it will cross to PSA, I just know that I think it’s gorgeous.

One of my favorite players in the early 70s. The population of this PSA 8 Brodie Stand-up is 16 with only 1 higher.
