Best part of heritage has been the long time collectors here and their stories and rips. It is good to see all the usual suspects (and some rookies) here.
You are right, the odds have been stretched so much that you rarely get any back for the buck. Sure the big hits are always out there, but topps runs the presses more and more each year.

ANYBODY WHO MIGHT WANT A BASE SET LET ME KNOW!!!!!!
I will easily have enough base for two 1-400 base sets when all is said and done. I just won't have them ready for a week or two.
Just finished half my case. I sat out last year due to my father's illness, just didn't have the time. Ended up purchasing a 2018 master set online so the complete Heritage set streak could continue. More autos than I recall from past years, I've pulled 3 in six boxes: Story, Jansen & Torre. 4 in a case would be nice. Pulled my first Throwback jersey ever: Ohtani
Any ideas on these Mystery autos? I'm working on collecting all the blue autos (2016-2022) if I can afford it. That's when I collected cards as a kid 1967-1973. Seems like a new gimmick, not sure I care for this approach. Very much agree about too many New Age. Big waste
122 SPs....90 different from a case about $100 in retail at both Target and Wal-Mart. I need 10. Topps frustrates me so much. I saw something on another blog or post maybe here - that they read the message boards. I hope they read this...
Decide what Heritage is - a high end product with rare memorabilia hits or something for the set builders. Because action images, gimmicky errors, color swaps, logo variations from years past don't hold any value in my opinion. While rare they aren't sought after, 2-3 months after the set is completed. The errors that were an homage to the actual set were a nice touch. But there aren't action variations or color swaps in the 1970 set. The 69 set had some really neat errors - with the Paul Popovich cap airbrush and Yellow letters vs. white letters coming to mind. Does Topps do any of that - no. Make this something that can be completed, have the same number of cards as the set it mimics, spread your stars over the course of the set, not just in the SPs. Topps didn't have a traded set until the last series in 1972 and only a few cards were stamped "traded." The first actual traded set came in 1974. Heritage doesn't need a high number or extended series.
Another personal pet peeve of my mine - I'm actually impressed with the amount of players with their new teams in this set, Paxton, Encarnacion, Billy Hamilton, Goldschmidt, Luke Weaver, Cano, Edwin Diaz, Nelson Cruz, Yonder Alonso. That brings us to spare Rangers catcher, excuse former Rangers catcher Robinson Chirinos. He signed with Houston on December 5. Thats before everyone of the players listed above switched teams, except Cano who was traded on 12/3. Now why is Chirinos with the Rangers? 1) If they list him with Houston they have to make another Rangers player and Topps obviously hates the Rangers. 2) They're very lazy, Chirinos is a spare player on a bad team, and who's gonna care. 3) The people that work for Topps aren't really immersed in baseball and had no idea this player changed teams.
Ok rant over...case and retail hits tally coming....
Back around the mid-2000's, we used to have discussions on collation.
It was a real head scratcher.
Absolute commons were coming up like SPs. We wondered if there was a "regional distribution" to the collation based on the cases sold and "where" they went?
Just a fun conspiracy theory we had to make the set building game a little more fun.

If you remember, Kevin aka JoeStalin kept things lively.
He used to hunt all over town for blasters.
I remember his disdain for "pack searchers" at Target and how he fantasized kicking their ass...

Observation on trading.
Back in days of yore - c2004 or so - we used to trade evenly for SPs and inserts.
So for those who go back that far? I can see why there might be a disparity - hate to see any hard feelings.
Also, Heritage has become way more complicated - opening product in 2001 and 2?
A much simpler world where one could also finish a chrome set as part of their Master.
IMO, that ship has sailed.
My approach to the changes? Just have fun and take it as it comes.
Otherwise? It's sure gonna seem like work. And I used to have a job.

I remember that Mike, the Heritage thread was a busy place back then.

If you remember, Kevin aka JoeStalin kept things lively.
He used to hunt all over town for blasters.
I remember his disdain for "pack searchers" at Target and how he fantasized kicking their ass...
So far just four trade lists. Hoping that's because its been just 96 hours since release LOL

Its also cause of the title of the thread. I asked a few pages ago for a title change, but no response.
Yeah there should be a trade only dedicated thread

Question:
How many SPs do you think is fair for the Judge color swap?
(Trade on another place - and I'm the one trying to acquire the Judge). Thanks.

Normally trades are handled in the "other" forum.
But, since this is a "board" participation, I see no problem with the trading being done here since we've pretty much done it that way for years.
I hesitate to say, really no idea. You might compare ebay prices for the action vs. SP.

Not sure if my observation is correct but it appears that in the base set - all the rookies are "shared."
So, if I want Michael Kopeck with the RC logo, e.g., I have to get the variation which is a solo card:
*pulled this scan off the net
That would be quite a task - anyway - Dan.

Yup, NO THANKS! Making variations this difficult is a mistake. Nobody will give a rats ass about them going forward.
