I think one of the biggest issues I had with the later years and all the additional inserts, were they took the place of an SP in the pack. Making it harder to complete the base set. Now Topps in it's wisdom increased the number of SPs, making it impossible to get a set in a case. (which was always my goal).
My son are and I are thinking of starting a heritage run. We love the 70-73 designs. Question, I know they are pre-sale right now. is there a good time to buy? usually we get these cards during the national.
Also, I noticed there is rookies, high numbers, etc. We want to get the entire master set, so what other runs are there and when are they for sale.
Thanks in advance

Early in the presale seems like the best time. Around Oct-Dec before the season has been my experience. I thought the price starts to rise January up to the release date. I believe high numbers is the only additional set, usually late summer, although I haven't purchased any in a few years. It used to be a complete set, but I think they've turned it into packs a few years back.
While you are all waiting for the frenzy to start I found an interesting variation or mistake from the 2006 set. Checklist 5 of 5. Take a look and any insight would be wonderful. They are not the same. Is one a fixed variant of a early mistake?
the checklists for 2006 heritage varied by retail vs. hobby. that is what you are seeing. i forget which ones varied but i think a few of them (but not all 5) have variations. i have them in my sets, i would have to look it up.

Ahhhhhhh THAT would explain it as I ripped one hobby case and then a bunch of retail in the master set quest. Good stuff my friend!

I think Heritage High Number this year is going to be amazing, except for the fact that it will be produced in quantity like 1991 Topps.

Damn, really? I last did a master set in 2007 .... are they really printing the crap out of this?

It's been going up and up year after year lately and just exploded with '18 and all the rookies they had. This year? With Guerrero/Tatis/Eloy/whoever else? They're just going to let the printers roll.
Anyone rip retail yet? Looking forward to following this thread. I’ll be participating next year with a vengeance. Hopefully there will be several prospects worthy of the ‘71 design.

Crazy question, just getting back into BB and all.: is Blake Snell pretty good? I pulled an auto/patch #/10 yesterday in a jumbo hobby. Pretty neat!
I like the look, but, after doing my share of Series 1 Hobby and retail,
just not a strong player run, 2018 was out of this world, and 17 was pretty strong also
I probably just pick up desirable singles, variations and parallels

At least to me anyway, none of that matters. Heritage gets done done cause it's heritage.

I'm still waiting on my hobby boxes, so haven't ripped any yet. A quick rundown of the checklist, and it seems that ALL of the desirable star cards are numbered in the 400s this year, which are of course the SPs. Gonna be tough!
I don’t know the significance of Purple Chromes yet (they aren’t numbered) but I just ripped a 8 pack retail box that had a purple chrome in EVERY pack.

Is the purple an exclusive to the retail store you got them at? I think they are
Well it was my birthday and I heard heritage was good so I bought two boxes. Hit two autographs (Muncy and Story) and an SSP Acuna Jr. french back. Nice stuff, but the good old days are gone. You used to get 4 chrome cards a box and now with the odds, you get 5 chromes a case. Good luck to all!
