If we beat LA and you beat the Saints...…..I guess you will have to come to Dallas for your final ass whooping!

If that happens, there may need to be a viewer advisory warning posted for this thread, the smack could get so disturbing. ;)

We can only hope it comes to that. ;)

Both of our teams are long shots against two rested teams at their stadiums. It's going to be a very tough task for that to happen.

    We shall see. :)

May not mean much but history can repeat in this regard: 3 of 4 road teams won this past playoff weekend.

Not exactly up there with, "The Giants win the pennant; the Giants win the pennant; the Giants win the pennant!!!!!" When Bobby Thompson hit that dramatic homerun that beat the Dodgers.

But we Eagle fans will take it.

As I sit back and digest this win, it's really hard to believe how far this team has come. I'll admit it, as staunch an EAGLES fan that I am, I wrote them off after the SAINTS game where there secondary consisted of 3 players they literally pulled off the street. It's been an amazing ride for the past 4 weeks, starting with the Rams game and keeping it alive with the double doink kick. Don't count this team out yet. I know New Orleans is a difficult place to play, and they are the biggest underdog on the board and basically no one thinks they can win this game........but then again, how many people thought they could beat the mighty Patriots last year. STay tuned

Maybe I'm overstating this angle, we shall see, but I have to believe from the Eagles coaching staff on down to all of the players, they are deeply hissed off about Sean Payton running up the score against them earlier in the season in the Saints game you mentioned.

I'm not sure what was going thru the mind of Sean Payton while doing that, and frankly i don't even care. The only thing that matters is that he did it, and what are the Eagles going to do about it?

    Not really.

Snide remarks from opposing players posted on the locker room bulletin board, does help to motivate players or coaches wouldn't do it. The players shouldn't need any reminding about that Saints game, probably just a bulletin board post of the score will be good enough.

The Eagles will be quite motivated to kick the Saints arze. And it wouldn't surprise me at all if some of the Eagles players give Sean Payton some very unfriendly hand signals.

That being said, the question is whether or not the Eagles are good enough, with all that factored in, to beat the Saints.

How many people thought they would beat the Rams in LA? Toward the end of the season, the Saints have not looked as sharp as they did earlier. An upset is possible.

Well, the sentiment in Philly is that the Saints did run up the score. I know there's not supposed to be a let up, but the Saints had the Eagles playing with guys at corner they just brought in that week; they had multiple backs injured. And Payton continued to throw the ball even after they had more than a large enough lead. Don't know if they're good enough to beat the Saints but I'm telling you don't count this team out. No one is giving them a chance, and that's when they are most dangerous. Based on what he's done in the playoffs, would you feel comfortable having to face Foles at this point.

  • stevekstevek Posts: 29,029 ✭✭✭✭✭

If before the Eagles-Bears game, it was a given certainty that Eagles QB Foles would have two interceptions, and Bears QB Trubisky would have no interceptions...and considering the Bears playing at Soldier Field as a fairly heavy favorite...that the Eagles would win the game...I think any reasonable person would say it was preposterous that the Eagles could win a game with a scenario such as that.

However the Eagles defense stepped up, kept the Eagles in the game, Foles did just enough, and of course the Eagles got extremely lucky that the Bears winning field goal attempt was unsuccessful by millimeters.

Considering Foles status as a backup, and considering that he won every game last season as an underdog including the Super Bowl...then this season has won three straight games in the regular season which had to be won or the Eagles wouldn't be in the playoffs including one against the Rams as a very heavy underdog...and just won the playoff game against the Bears as a fairly heavy underdog...all of this without a doubt has to be one of the most remarkable win streaks in NFL history.

Of course the thing is with win streaks in sports, especially against long odds, they always end. And when it ends, it usually ends badly. But fully realizing all that, i'm taking it one game at a time, and will be rooting hard for the Eagles to beat the Saints. If they don't, then they don't. It's all been a lot of fun, very entertaining, and it will be sad to see Foles go after the season is over.

Watch how when Foles first comes back to the Linc as an opposing player, the classy Eagles fans give Foles a standing ovation. Only before the game of course, because during the game we'll be rooting for him to fall flat on his face. ;)

Steve, you couldn't have given a better assessment. Nick Foles should never have to buy another drink or meal in Phila for the rest of his life. What he has done is the stuff legends are made of. I just hope that I get the chance to tell the story to my grandkids someday, just like my dad would tell me about Chuck Bednarik sitting on a Packers player at the end of the 60 championship game as the final seconds ticked off the clock. Who knows, the run may not be over yet; there's at least one more game to play. Either way, they have given Philly fans more than we could have expected this year, given all the adversity they've faced.

I have no horse in the Philly- Saints Game. Love the Foles story. He brings something to the table that Wentz doesn’t

<<< If you have to get yourself motivated by having the score run up on you that’s a issue >>>

You never had anyone absolutely kick your butt in business, politics, personally or whatever, and then be extra motivated to get back at them? If you haven't had any of that happen to you, well then you've probably lived a very sheltered life.

Likely most if not virtually all people have been humiliated as mentioned, and if they're not extra motivated to get back at them and beat them, well then they're likely not very competitive.

You should remember that being highly competitive athletes, helped these NFL players get to this top level to begin with. So that as well as a good coach who knows how to use this to stoke their fires for payback, can definitely help lead a team onward to victory.

That being said, an angry rabbit still can't beat up a wolf. So if the Saints are far superior to the Eagles, then the Saints may win the game anyway.

    We shall see. :)

The story of Nick Foles reminds me of Dave Henderson who played for the Red Sox for a short while in the 1980s. He was the hero for them a few times, but his biggest hit was against the Angels at LA in the 1986 League Championship Series. The Red Sox were down by two runs in the bottom on the 9th win two outs. The announcers were talking like the Angels had the game won and were moving on the World Series when out of blue Henderson cracked a homer that won the game, a huge clutch hit. As I remember it he helped them in the World Series too, but he couldn’t do anything about the ball that went between Buckner’s legs.

Inexplicably the Red Sox traded him the next season to Oakland where he became a regular on some of their good teams. I think the same thing will happen with Foles. Everybody says Wentz is the future, yet so far he has only been a very bright flash in the pan. I don’t see how the Eagles could keep both of them for another season. The Red Sox could have kept Henderson; football, with the salary cap, is not the same.

I agree there is motivation for the Eagles due to the run up, but if it's enough....I don't know. Bottom line is the Saints are not lighting everybody up like they did earlier.

And Dallas shut them down in their hey day...….it can be done if you get after Drew B. :)B)

The Saints actually had a slightly better record on the road than at home this season.

So perhaps the Eagles can sneak in there and grab a win. But they're going to need a lot of good luck to do it, like they had in the Bears game. And this time Foles must stay away from any interceptions.

  • JRR300JRR300 Posts: 1,368 ✭✭✭✭

Again, I'm not sure if they have enough to take down the Saints at home, but I wouldn't want to be the Saints playing in a one score game in the 4th quarter....even with Brees. The Eagles D has a knack for making a big play when needed. They did it to Brady in the Super Bowl last year, they tipped the last FG attempt against the Bears. And after facing the Bears D last week, it can't be any more difficult for the offense than that.

If the Pats miraculously make it to the Suoer Bowl, the Nick Foles led Eagles are the last team I want to face. They are not nearly as good as the other NFC opponents really but breaks are going their way along with a little luck, that is a recipe for danger.

Well, we'll soon see. Yesterday, all the prognosticators had the Colts and Cowboys...how did that work out. And if my memory serves me correctly, not many people gave the Eagles a chance all thru last year's playoffs either. Tough task to win in the big easy, but is it any tougher than going against Brady in the big game last year. We'll know in about 7 hours. Stay tuned.

A 9-7 Eagles team that has a +19 point differential going on the road against a team with a
+151 point differential. Eagles have won 3 in a row. Saints lost their last game. Logic
tells me that a 9-7 team is due for a loss against a 13-3 team that had a week to rest.

My gut tells me this ain't going to be pretty. If Eagle fans thought the Saints ran up the score
last time, then they may be seeing a repeat performance today.

Possibly. I'm not going to rule that out.

However if an Eagles player "accidentally" gives Sean Payton a wicked forearm shiver when running in that general direction during a play, then i'll accept the loss gracefully.

Foles is going to need to play flawlessly to give the Eagles a chance. Two interceptions like he had last Sunday at Soldier Field would be a disaster against this team.

Frankly, I won't like it of course, but I'm okay with an Eagles loss today. It's been a terrific two seasons with a Super Bowl championship last season, and at least one playoff win this season, all against very long odds considering a backup quarterback was involved.

The saddest part will be seeing Nick Foles go at the end of the season. No matter what happens, Foles will forever be a warm spot in the heart of every Eagles fan. :)

You can look at that 9-7 records all you want. Down the stretch, they beat the Rams at LA, Houston and last week the Bears at Chicago. They also should have beaten the Cowboys at Dallas except for several atrocious calls that went against them. This is not the same team that played the Saints the last time. In the end, they may not be good enough, but I expect a close, hard fought game where most likely the last team to possess the ball wins. If you're a New Orleans fan, how confident would you be if you had to protect a small lead against Foles and the EAGLES with 2 mins to play and the Eagles have the ball.

I shouldn't complain having a 4 point lead at halftime, so i won't, even though I would like to.

Long established football etiquette rules do not allow fans to complain when your team is a heavy underdog and has a lead at halftime. So who am I to disobey etiquette?

The Eagles are using this four man rush which lets Brees sit back a wait for receivers to get open. Since the declined penalty and the fake punt, Peterson has been out coached. He should have known darn well that New Orleans was going to go for that fake. I did.

I was actually surprised that Foles snapped the ball to beat the 2 minute warning. That made little sense to me

Well my congrats to the Saints who didn't play their best game but were able to get the W. It's just a shame that Jeffrey, who has caught basically everything thrown to him, let that one go thru his hands. Boy that would have been a real interesting finish. The defending champs go down with nothing to be ashamed of, and just look out for them next year. At this point, I'd make the Saints the favorite to win it all, eventhough their D is still a little shaky for my liking. But Payton has such a good feel for coaching a big game and has the guts to gamble at the least likely time to make them the favorite.
BTW. Eagles were the only dog to cover the number this weekend....other games really not close.

Well they say all good things must come to an end, and thus the end of the Philadelphia Eagles remarkable run of big game wins with Nick Foles as the quarterback.

I'm already looking forward to next season.
