It has been a great run but all good things come to an end and it is time for some other team now.

I doubt any team will ever match what the Pats have done over the past 18 years, it will literally be almost impossible to replicate in my opinion

I would put the Cowboys right up there with them...….different time periods......but the same number of SB wins.

    Both are great teams. ;)

Cowboys, Patriots, Steelers, Broncos and 49’ers are the class of NFL all time franchises. I don’t consider the Packers but won’t argue anyone putting them in there I guess

I don't know if I would include the Broncos in that group.

They got 8 Super Bowl appearances

The Patriots later released a team statement that read: We support Josh Gordon in his continued efforts to focus on his health. His attempt to do so is a private and personal matter, which we intend to respect.

I'm sure we'll hear Belichick repeat that last line about 50 times in the coming week.

looks like Gordon is facing another suspension, so he is stepping away from football

Perhaps we should add the Bills to the list of great Super Bowl teams. :)

Sounds like the "stepping away" part is the NFL letting him try to save some face here but that all went for nothing once the indefinite suspension reports came out.
This was a big loss for the Pats offense just for the fact when Gordon was on the field the opposing team's top CB was accounted for. Now that CB covers Gronk,Edelman or Hogan(who looked horrible the first 4 weeks when he had the top CBs covering him)

Unbelievable, actually it is believable. The Pats WR corps is a disaster now, this will speed up their one and done in the playoffs 🤬

LMAO......they hold a record that will NEVER be matched! Losing 4 SB's in a row. OH how I loved that! :) All to the NFC East.

2 to the Cowboys...1 to the Giants and 1 to the Redskins. Everybody kicked in except Philly!! :):oB)

The thing is that he probably will be out of football permanently now and he will be relieved for the time being, when he hits his mid 30’s is when he will regret trading partying for a career. I’ve seen this before in LE, guys getting a break and doing the drug counseling ect.. and getting a second or third shot and just doing what they want and living their life the way they want to and Ofcourse they all end up regretting it. It’s too bad, such a wasted opportunity

As for NFC East, I don’t like the Cowboys and hate the Giants. I have said that only time I’d root for the Giants would be if they were playing Al Kata.

Soooooo. Patterson? Dorset? Hogan? Which one steps up??

  • erikthredderikthredd Posts: 9,035 ✭✭✭✭✭

I wanna say Hogan since he's had success with Brady throwing to him but if he now has the opposing top CB covering him like I mentioned above he could have problems.

I'd rather see the Pats go back to the two headed monster at RB gameplan with Michel & White then start hitting Gronk or Hogan with the play action like they did during their 6 game win streak. Commit to the run and stick with it.

  • perkdogperkdog Posts: 30,662 ✭✭✭✭✭

Dorset has a few games where he was playing really well, it’s going to be all hands on deck now with everyone needing to step up. I laugh at this predicament they are in, the fact that they are so thin at WR when you have the best QB ever is all Belicheks fault to begin with. I don’t even care if they get help or not, even if they get home field advantage they will probably lose anyways

Home field doesn't help much when the other team is just better.

you don't need to have compasion for them. Remain neutral then and don't wish misfortune on someone you have never met who has never harmed you in anyway :D Why bestow curses on strangers ?

As for who will step up, I agree we need to pound the rock AND that Hogan can go back to having success if and only if we run so effectively that play action is really working and one other receiver is getting it done reliably.

    I still have hope.

Edit to add: I think we need to go VERY run heavy.

You are absolutely correct, not saying this as a Pats fan, but as a NFL fan. With the salary cap it is impossible to keep dream teams like the 70’s Steelers, 80’s 49ers, 90’s Cowboys, etc. Those teams would not be able to keep all their stars due to the cap (started in 1994, Dallas last year as a dynasty). Watch what happens to the Chiefs (Mahomes, Hill, Kelce), Rams (Goff, Gurley, Donald, Cooks), Cowboys (Elliot, Prescott, Lawrence, Cooper) when many of these stars are done with their 4 year low rookie contracts. They will command big dollars and there will be turnover. What the Pats have done over the past 18 years Is remarkable in a league with so much parody/annual changes. I still think if Houston loses to the Eagles in Philly, NE wins out, we get a 1st round bye, that we can still get to the Super Bowl. I have seen this team rise after defeats so many times that you can never count them out.

  • fergie23fergie23 Posts: 2,130 ✭✭✭✭

This is the first Pats team in a long time that we have to hope for things to go right in order for them to be successful in the playoffs. Brady just hasn't been Brady this season and I think the Pats will be exposed in the playoffs. Obviously I hope that doesn't happen but we shall see.

I don't actually think winning the next two games is a given for the Pats. They have put up some real stinkers so far this year.

The enduring success of Brady/Belichick will not be duplicated in the salary cap era. The Pats are the only team that consistently doesn't overpay stars and lets players walk a year early rather than a year too late. Brady's late game heroics and Belichick's ability to coach up anyone has papered over all the mediocre players and teams they have had the last 18 years.

I think Belichick wanted to get rid of Brady but ownership chose Brady over Garoppolo. It would have been classic Belichick if they had traded/gotten rid of Brady after last season to keep Garoppolo. Ownership didn't let him do it.

The Pats will have to overhaul their WR/TE corps this off season. Brady needs more help with age impacting him. The Pats need to get some wide receivers and tight ends that can beat man to man coverage and get some separation.

They'll have to go find WRs this offseason no matter what seeing that Edelman is the only WR signed for 2019 outside of a couple practice squad guys. I can see Hogan coming back around his current salary.

BB is gonna have a ton of draft picks including at least a couple third round compensatory picks after losing Solder,Butler & Lewis so I can see them grabbing a couple WRs in the draft. A couple TEs would be great too but its likely to be just one if they go TE at all.
I've been waiting for years for BB to draft a legit replacement for Aaron Hernandez but it hasn't happened. Their offense was close to unstoppable when they were in two TE sets in those years after drafting Gronk&Hernandez.

The Patriots haven't drafted a Rutgers player since 2013 and all of the Rutgers players during the Greg Schiano era are long gone by now. I doubt we see another player from that school get drafted by Belichick.

Right but they also scored 38 points. I don’t think the Pats D is much better than Green Bay’s

KC has to play in the Seattle snake pit tonight. If they lose that game, the Patriots could still get the first seed. The trouble is KC's last game is with Chuckie's Oakland Teddy Bears.

NE's defense is only giving up 17pts a game since the bye week. That last play in the Miami game and the flags last week in Pittsburgh have overshadowed their bend but don't break defense.

And can you believe the Offense is just as questionable as the D? I think it is, I think you will see a smart team key up on those RB’s and that will be a problem

Buffalo on defense is one of the "smart teams" They ranked 1st in Total Defense,1st in Pass Defense & 9th in Run Defense and the Pats run game just steamrolled them repeatedly thru that game. Buffalo knew it was coming and could do nothing about it. Running the ball not only opens up their play action but it also keeps their own defense off the field.

Last week in Pittsburgh they all but gave up on running the ball in that first half then resorted to it later when their passing game was getting them nothing. We lost a WR,Gronk has ankle issues and some of Brady's throws have been off lately so morph into a power run game and stick with,IMO. Today was the results of doing that against one of the best defenses in football.

Pats fans should be rooting for the Raiders this week when they go into KC to play the Chiefs. A Chiefs loss and Pats win at home vs NY will give NE the #1 seed.

The Raiders should be able to put up 45 on us so I would say they have a decent chance of winning.
There's just way too much pressure on the Chiefs offense knowing they have to be perfect to win a game.
