We have a steel roof now. Very expensive very strong but your spot on about the gutters 😉
@PerryHall said: @Jzyskowski1 You may want to knock down that giant heavy icicle before it pulls down the gutter or otherwise damages your roof.
While at it the medium sized ones should go as well. Here in icicle land more than one hapless person has been stabbed by a falling icicle.
Come to think of it, anyone writing a perfect crime story based in the arctic might have found the ideal weapon of choice. The murder weapon would permanently disappear once the temperatures drops.
Great idea for the murder mystery. I always thought a falling coconut was a good choice. For those that don’t know, at the resorts in the tropics they have people who climb up and cut them off before they open the beach area.

OK, in honor to the Chiefs' amazing overtime win, here is the artist's depiction of a Chief from one of those places where people climb up and cut off the coconuts before the fall and injure people.
And adding to the Movie Trivia theme, the locale surrounding Neuschwanstein Castle was the filming location for World War ii storied film "The Great Escape" as depicted in this book from the nearby gift shop.
The Great Escape is a 1963 American epic adventure suspense war film starring Steve McQueen, James Garner and Richard Attenborough and featuring James Donald, Charles Bronson, Donald Pleasence, James Coburn, Hannes Messemer, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, John Leyton and Angus Lennie. It was filmed in Panavision.
The film is based on Paul Brickhill's 1950 non-fiction book of the same name, a firsthand account of the mass escape by British Commonwealth prisoners of war from German POW camp Stalag Luft III in Sagan (now Żagań, Poland), in the Nazi Germany province of Lower Silesia. The film depicts a heavily fictionalized version of the escape, with numerous compromises for its commercial appeal, such as focusing more on American involvement in the escape.
The Great Escape was made by The Mirisch Company, released by United Artists, and produced and directed by John Sturges. The film had its Royal World Premiere at the Odeon Leicester Square in London's West End on 20 June 1963.[2] The Great Escape emerged as one of the highest-grossing films of the year, winning McQueen the award for Best Actor at the Moscow International Film Festival,[3] and is now considered a classic.[4] The Great Escape is also noted for its motorcycle chase and jump scene, which is considered one of the best stunts ever performed.[

Two the greatest movie race scenes of all time
and both thanks to Steve McQueen!
The Great Escape (motorcycle) 1963
Bullitt (Mustang GT) 1966
And that is not counting his role in LeMans (1971).
Nor his non filmed "race" through the streets of Anchorage, Alaska in late spring of 1972 which landed him a police mug shot and eventual reckless driving conviction in absentia. Reportedly he was racing up and down 4th Avenue and turning Brodies in a rented Oldsmobile Toronado.
As to the mug shot (which is apparently on display at the Alaska State Troopers Museum) the circumstances surrounding its taking have been reported as, "Once arrested, [it was] an autograph party in handcuffs."
(Reportedly Steve had failed his sobriety test when instead of trying to walk the straight line, he somersaulted down the line.)
Arrested in Anchorage Alaska, 1972 for reckless driving
Steve McQueen looks cocky in his mug shots, which might be the most famous photos ever snapped by cops in Anchorage. The two photos show the actor smirking, standing in front of a wall painted with horizontal lines to measure his height. There's a scrape on the bridge of his nose, a minor flesh wound that might have been fresh from a scuffle with police. The movie star is flashing a peace sign at the camera, pushing his hand in front of a sign that features his name, birthday, and the cryptic code "AJ 19261" in white plastic letters.

Ahh, I think I see the makings of a Not So Major Motion Picture: "The Not So Great Escape."
Guess it would make for an Arctic sequel to the Made in Alaska films 'Big Miracle" and "The Frozen Ground." Perhaps Nicolas Cage could return to play Steve McQueen.
Hunkered down in Maine today as most everything is closed with the Blizzard Warnings up - right now we have heavy snow and 50 mph gusts. Not too bad though as we've only had 5" so far but if we get a couple feet it will be a bit of work clearing out...already shoveled once. Clear it out every 6" or so is how I do it.
That was the Sylmar earthquake 6.5/6.6 I was 6 years old I remember driving around looking at all the damage with my parents or was that the northridge one?
Correct. 1971. 6.6 EQ I was 13 and woke up to severe shaking in Fullerton CA. Lasted about a minute. One of the reasons I became a Civil Engineer.
Very cool that inspired your later career. :-)
I was 14 at the time and down there as well, in the South Bay Area.
It woke me up and I recall bouncing of the walls while running down our homes hallway while the trees swayed- absent any wind and water splashed out of the pool. It was an eerily surreal quake.
Crazy memories!
