I'm surprised that Los Angeles hasn't scheduled a city wide welcoming parade for LeBron, with many Hollywood celebrities giving him a great big hug.

Perhaps I just missed the announcement.

The Lakers signed center Javale Mcgee,if you don't remember who he is he was the guy getting stuffed by the rim in the Finals.

LeBron just announced that when his Lakers contract is up, he's running for governor of California.

He initially said king of California, but someone had to tell him that there isn't any office such as that at this time.

This whole Lebron thing is so unimportant.....I couldn't care less (I have tried but can't) where he goes. I mean really!

Well, at least he won't lose in the nba finals anymore.

It will be the conference finals.

Curious about the rare, mysterious and beautiful 1951 Wheaties Premium Photos?

Lakers tickets skyrocket by thousands after LeBron James agrees to sign with team

Here’s something that should shock no one: Los Angeles Lakers tickets skyrocketed following LeBron James’ decision to join the team.

Ticket prices on StubHub jumped by over $2,000 just 20 minutes after James announced he intended to sign with the team Sunday night.

Prior to the LeBron news, Lakers season tickets could be purchased for $3,500 minimum. Twenty minutes after James signed, that figure jumped to $5,800. Hours later, it was even higher. The cheapest season tickets available on Stubhub hours after the signing was $6,000. That will net you tickets in the 15th row of the 300 level.

Cousins just signed with the Warriors. It must be nice to add a guy averaging 25pts,12reb,5ass/game before getting hurt.

That puts them at FIVE All Stars Starting and Two All Stars coming off the bench.

GS used their 5.3M taxpayer midlevel exception on him and its actually costing the team 22.5M in taxes to add Cousins.

Mark this post down for the end of the NBA basketball season in 2022....I think we'll all still be here.

This saga with LeBron and the Lakers will end badly, perhaps very badly...and i think it's an easy call.

LeBron could get injured, his performance degrades, or any number of negative possibilities.

I didn't see the contract details, for example whether or not the money is guaranteed, but I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if LeBron doesn't play out the contract in full, either he quits or gets released.

I can't wait for this. LA wins division because his son has developed in his Soph season. He just needs LeBron to get his son the ball. LeBall may end up being the 4th baller.

pfft...not Boston, they have a new super rookie on defense that will shutdown both Durant & Cousins at the same time. That's if someone wakes him up to go answer the phone when the team calls, then reminds him to not miss his flight then makes sure he gets to practice.
That's right GS,you better come prepared because our guy is gonna tear sht up as long as someone holds his hand from now until the finals. :p

The "behavior" reminds me a little bit of Allen Iverson, although Iverson was mainly known for offense.

Hope I am wrong but with the Celtics rookie the first thing that comes to mind is drugs. Once can be an accident but twice is a pattern. We will see how it all plays out but definitely not an auspicious beginning for him.

Looks like the final season that the Warriors play at Oracle Arena in Oakland will see many home games where the theme will be "Boogie Nights".

If Cousins recovers from his injury and plays at the level he did last year prior to his injury the Warriors may very easily run away with another title.

Is LBJ now the greatest player in Laker history or should we wait until he plays a game in that uniform before we recognize it?

all the media driven hype over this is what justifies the price that Teams are willing to pay for players. in reality, the "Team" doesn't pay anything, the fans pay and the player, franchise and league all profit.

an aside to Dimeman --- it is strange that since you have repeatedly tended to agree that Michael Jordan and Lebron James are the top two GOAT candidates that when replying above you have placed West, Magic, KAJ or Kobe between the two, maybe even ahead of them both. I have said it before, Lebron James is no different than any of the other marquee players in the NBA or any other professional sport or other part of the entertainment industry, they will play where they are paid the best and afforded the most adoration. also, they all have agents that either keep them in the news cycle of keep them out.

this whole thread has highlighted the "hate" that James inspires as well as the appreciation for his skill. in the end for me it says more about the members who have participated, myself included, than it does about the players who have been discussed.

Hopefully Ainge doesn't make it happen. The Clippers would be the ideal place for him to land from a Boston perspective but they don't have what it will take to trade for him. I think he'll end up in Philly unless the Lakers decide to pay the godfather ransom SA wants from them. It would be hilarious if the Lakers finally cave in and make the deal then he balks at going there if there's any truth in the link i just posted.

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

I just heard that Chris Paul just signed a new contract and will be making more than James.

@keets I didn't mean to bruise your huge Lebron ego...….I just thought it silly to say James was the best Laker ever when he hasn't even played a game as a Laker yet. He will have to do a lot of serious playing to pass that list of ex-Lakers!

  • keetskeets Posts: 25,351 ✭✭✭✭✭

Jon, I have no "Lebron Ego" and don't even know what that might be. as for the rest of your comment, I don't know what he has left to prove unless you mean that he has to prove it with the Lakers. I'm sure he will. just because he traded uniforms and mediocre supporting casts doesn't mean he'll play differently. expect much of last year to be seen in next year.

and before I log out, do you consider that you have a huge Michael ego??

  • DIMEMANDIMEMAN Posts: 22,403 ✭✭✭✭✭

MJ is the GOAT and I don't have to continuely defend him like you seem to do for Lebron. Maybe not West, but I would put the other 3 mentioned right up there with Lebron.

Jon is exactly right. Whatever LeBron does for the Lakers, it won't come close to sniffing what these four players accomplished with the Lakers.

I give up, you guys win. :)

  • vintagefunvintagefun Posts: 1,974 ✭✭✭

If I can attempt to be the voice of reason here... I think we "mostly" all agree that MJ and LBJ are top 2. Which order could be argued ad nauseam. That said, one could say LBJ is the greatest player to wear the Lakers jersey...but that's a far cry from greatest player specific to the franchise's history.

If he doesn't win a banner will they hang his jersey? Retire his number? Maybe. But for Lakers lore he'd be an afterthought in comparison to the others named.

Lot of miles on those LeBron wheels. Remember, with every athlete, barring injury such as a torn rotator cuff, the first thing to go are the legs, particularly on muscular guys.

We shall see what happens, but don't be too surprised if this signing turns out to be a flop.

Boston is looking into acquiring Kyle Korver from the Cavs who want a 1st for him. He'd be a great fit coming off their bench but it sounds like the Celtics don't want to give up a 1st rounder for him.

It is even though Boston owns a crapload of 1sts in the next few years. I like Korver's shooting and if they can get him for a 2nd and/or a lesser player i'm all for it. He's 37yrs old but can still shoot and i think Philly caves before Boston. The 76ers need to replace some of their shooters lost in free agency.

Kawhi Leonard just got traded to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan plus another player & pick. He wanted to go to Los Angeles but instead got shipped out of the country , hilarious. :D

  • vintagefunvintagefun Posts: 1,974 ✭✭✭

Trading a loyal fan fave for a one year rental of the player Kawhi has been acting like, seems like a sketchy move. I think DeRozan will like the Spurs though, and the Spurs will love him. If Kawhi makes a difference this year, gives them a deep run and stays like George did, I'll have to revisit my opinion.

It is very interesting to see how much attention the NBA is receiving in the off season.

Years ago the NBA was not talked about during the off season (and it was often not talked about very much during the earlier parts of the regular season).

Times have changed. Today the NBA has ever increasing world wide appeal. After the title is earned in early to mid June, the draft takes place a couple of weeks later, then the free agents can sign with new teams starting July 1, the NBA summer league starts, NBA stars travel overseas to promote the game and the league, there is daily coverage of the leagues biggest names (primarily LeBron James) on sports television, there is social media coverage of star players on a daily basis, WAGS of players get social media and other media coverage, etc, etc., US National Teams and US Olympic Teams are selected and play in tournaments with NBA stars in abundance on teams around the world. Training camp now starts in late September and the regular season begins anew in mid October.
