What do you do With your Certified Coins you Feel are Undergraded by at Least 1 Full Point or More?

And how about if the said coin is housed in what is deemed a premium type older slab?

1) Crack it out and resubmit for an upgrade regardless of the holder

2) Leave intact and try and get one of those gold color sticker thingies

3) Leave it alone and do nothing

4) Resubmit it in the holder for an upgrade to avoid any possibility of a bad outcome

5) Crack it out and resubmit unless it's a premium type older holder, then just go for the sticker

6) Crack it out and submit to a different grading service

7) other

I have a PCGS OGH that I am sure would upgrade from a EF 40 to at least a AU 50 or better. The price difference is quite a bit. So far I have did nothing but if I did decide to do something I would submit it in the holder for a possible upgrade or go for a gold bean.

I don't buy them with the intent to crack out, but these days would try for a favorable bean first.

Go for the upgrade. I had a gold piece go from a 30 to a 40.

    7) Find another one to buy in a grade you are happy with. Then sell the one you think is under graded.

Leave it alone and do nothing. Unless you're ready to sell it, why bother.

When I was dealer and offering them for sale, I cracked them out. As a collector I hold 'em.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Depends on the coin. I recently had a San Diego half go from 64 to a 66.

Submit for regrade if the price difference warranted it.

    I don't sell them.

Instead, I put such coins aside and get on with my current coin business/activity. Later on (months, maybe years) I may revisit them and decide what to resubmit. I do tend to believe in myself and have resubmitted certain coins and have won.

    1. Submit to CAC in anticipation of a gold bean (these often bring prices much higher than 1 point or more higher).
    2. If number 1 fails and you are convinced that the coin is undergraded, try submitting it to the TPG again.

I hold on to it and enjoy it all the more. There's nothing that attracts more attention than an undergraded (or even conservatively graded) coin. Conversely, there's nothing more unimpressive than a maxed-out or overgraded coin.

Unless it's a Doily or NGC black it goes in for regrade in the holder. Green label and rattlers don't seem to be bring the money they used to.

I think probably because everyone now knows most have long since been picked over.

Have to keep watching as some come out of hiding some times. But I just sent two greens and a rattler in for re-holder as the coins where just on grade but the holders were scratched beyond repair.

I would leave it alone and do nothing, assuming that you don't want to sell it soon. Slabs and sticker-thingies are overrated unless/until you want to sell. I have removed many coins, particularly large cents, from rattlers and other types of older slabs (at least a dozen had green beans too), and I am not the slightest bit worried about having done this.

Leave it in the holder, and resubmit it.

I do nothing. I bought the coin because I liked it - not the slab, not the 'assigned opinion', and not because I want to sell it. I collect coins... Cheers, RickO

I'll add that if I do resubmit, about 80-90% of the time it'll be a crack out.

Leave in slab and submit for regrade, sometimes will crackout and resubmit. When doing this, I usually will have a true view done while it is out of it's coffin.

What are you talking about? Except for a couple of MS70 moderns, ALL of my certified coins are undergraded by at least 2 full points.

Either crack the coin out and enjoy it raw, or enjoy the coin in its existing holder.

I don't worry about grades. In 45 years of collecting I have submitted 8 coins to PCGS, just to list on the PCGS Registry (5 of them crossed at grade from NGC in holder).

I try to find someone that thinks the coin is undergraded by at least 2 points, and let them
    crack it out.

Don't crack it. Too risky. Either go for regrade or send it to CAC.

If I intend to keep the coin, I just enjoy it as it is.

Leave them be. Nothing cooler than an undergraded ( or undergraded looking) certified coin.
