I picked this up from Kruk - on a very fair BIN.

I'm over budget now - and will be seeing how long I have to go without buying.

    That's a great card!!!!

Striker? I read an article - and there's a game from England called "Rounders" - and they call the batter the 'striker' - wonder if that's what this represents?

Thanks Mike - it's a really cool old set, esp. considering that it's from 1884. There are no specific players included in the set, just 37 generic cards of "strikers", base hits, etc. I have a full SGC graded set; most of these came from a recent find, so there are many high-grade cards out there, but anything from 1884 that can get a mint grade is cool by me!

Received one of these in the mail this week. Of the 210 in the "Graded Series" only six were graded 9.5.

Mike, I can't see what made it a 2.5. I'm gonna have to look closer -

Here's the back Mike. There looks like a very light stain or something in the lower left corner, it's actually hard to see in hand. Maybe a little water damage? I can't see it on the front of the card.

    I don't understand Mark.

Did you buy this on ebay?

    Why isn't this like a 6 or 7?

Got it on eBay for $39. Would that light stain cause it to grade at 2?

Really don't know - maybe it might be worth resub'ing it? Or a review in the holder?

    Good luck - it's a beauty!

Look on the bottom right of the back of the Hodges card. I have some with that similar wrinkle. That and the staining probably bring down the grade. Still a beautiful card.

Brick, I see a bump on the bottom right corner but no wrinkle. We'll see what happens on a resub, I have the 6 freebies to use up.

I asked some friends about the card, they weren't sure other than to think that perhaps PSA is really tuff on (water) stains and wrinkles/dings?

If ya got the subs anyways - ya don't have alot to lose - if it gets bumped to a 5 even - it's worth a bit more than 39 bucks.

This is what my wife got me for my birthday.

    image

I've wanted a nice looking Griffey auto for a while now, but never quite saw the right card or couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger when the time came. My "problem" is that I want a good vehicle for the signature, and it's actually pretty tough to find baseball cards that have the right color scheme (that aren't Allen & Ginter or Goudey, anyway).

That's why I like the 90 Upper Deck over the 89. The white jersey provides a perfect background for a signature.

And that still wasn't the best thing to happen to me this weekend. My birthday was yesterday. Two days before that was my wedding!

    image

I'd like to think I got two nice pickups this weekend, hehe.
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Cool old Ogden's card hhmag! I love those old British tobacco cards, and the black borders look great in that slab. Do you have any more from that set?

Great cards, Steve. Dryden looks better than a PSA 8. Centering on the Orr is just about perfect. Very jealous.

That's what i thought. PSA see's something what i don't see. Figured it was a 8.5 at worst case scenerio. I've owned PSA 9 Dryden's and this by far is the best centered Dryden i have owned. Well not for long it will make it to ebay eventually. As for the Orr i would like to try for a bump but don't have enough cards worth sending in. Don't mind paying the regrade fee but to pay 16.99 for shipping for 1 card is rediculous. This is where PSA has to change something in there shipping. 16.99 is to much money even for a few graded cards.
