Kaz, if by "special" you refer to it being cleaned, yes, the holder says "AU-50 CLEANED". It isn't for most folks, I understand, but I am going for scarce varieties rather than condition, so I am happy with it. I imagine that an awful lot of my coins have been cleaned.
Nice coins everyone, but far more importantly to me is where is my buddy Bully? I am rather concerned that I haven't noticed him post since last month.
I realize that nobody cares about reeded edge CBH except me, and many folks might not even consider them to be CBH, but I do, so here is my only 1838. It is JR-7 (R-6). It has the cracks that I like so much, plus a tiny little thing on the obverse that I have yet to see on any other CBH.
Nor will you find a rim cud on a lettered edge capped half--unless you make a new discovery. None are known to exist. You are right, also, that many CBH specialists don't consider the reeded edge halves part of the series since they were produced in a collar on steam presses rather then the old screw presses. I have a few "modern junk" pieces, though. I'll leave it up to you to try to attribute them as I post them since I have misplaced my Reiver VIM.

I love cuds, but I like CBH too, and I have more than just pondered the possibilities of a pre-1838 cud, but the reason for non-existence seems to escape my fat little head. Surely it could have nothing to do with the method of manufacture, the edging, the directorship of the mint, I am at a loss for rationale. CBH seem to incorporate just about every other unintended feature known to error and die specialists, why no cuds? As far as I have been able to summarize, the R-6 example that I posted is a unique variety.

His 'red' pasta sauce is to die for......best meatballs ever made, Italian Sausage, and tender pork!!!!! It's a beaut The Santa Clara show was and always is a great show, I had a lot of fun seeing old friends and making new ones. I always seem to leave with nice coins for a good price and this show was no exception.

While I do admire the gorgeous chocolates and rainbow beauties of the more Neanderthal-ish CBH, I am having trouble locating these characteristics on my current folly (reeded edge).

You have a superior collection of some of the most beautifully and consistently toned coins I have seen Bully. Nothing outlandish, just solid, naturally looking toned coins. KUDOS !!!

These raw CBH's I picked up at the Santa Clara show while hanging out with Crazyhounddog. I figure they're all around XF and I'm hoping PCGS doesn't "genuine" any. Lance.
Yeah Kaz, Lance's 1814 is a real eye catching beauty, but there is something about yours that holds a special place in my viewpoint. Yous has a certain facial expression radiating from the mouth that differs from Lance's coin (resembling that of Ben Franklin on the $100 note).
I know that I have been told (by folks who surely know far more about these things than I do) that the dies were made from master dies. I have asked questions before about this before, and although folks seem to be unwavering in their belief in the master die thing, I have received no answers as to what was the purpose of a master die, how long did it last, and why is it believed to be factual? These two 1814 coins are a prime example of my intrigue. The portraits are not of the same master die, (obviously)? Possibly the dies were personalized later making them seem to be of different master dies?
Not sure I would go SecurePlus, though. Seems to me the best shot is with a great example of a more common coin PCGS has seen many of. Yours, being a top pop, it both the worst and the best. LOL.
I'm sure PCGS has the good sense to make a rational plus call regardless. But I'd leave it the way it is and submit one of the other many stunning CBH's you have. Lance.

Playing with my homemade axial lighting setup tonite, was finally able to capture the iridescent layer on the surface of this 1828 curl base 2 (another one that fishteeth let go, I believe).
Have a few more 1837s to add to the 10 or twelve I have already posted. Here is another JR-2b, another JR-5c, another JR-22, JR-3b, JR-6b, and JR-12 (all R-6). Then there is another JR-1 and a JR-14 (both R-7).
