I'm still waiting for that 1820 O-108 to show up. Hoping for early next week. I know you guys will be greatly impressed as well, as it promises to be at least G, maybe even VG. Actually, I didn't want this thread to get too deeply buried where I wouldn't be able to find it again.

I have a hard time with spelling.

That one is 107 Bully.......Thanks to folks such as yourself, I feel that I have learned just enough about CBH by this point to be truly dangerous (to myself anyway).

And I am still liking what you are showing Dave. Please do not stop until they are all gone. They can be neither too beautiful or too unsightly for my tastes. Don't understand what I just said? Just bear in mind that I am tackily tactless, and demand more, more, more.

Interesting 'pinkish' shading on the periphery of Liberty's face.
She looks like she's watching an eclipse of the sun.
This coin was actually in a NGC holder graded MS61.
I bought it knowing it wasn't a 61, and paid 55 money thank God!
It's now in a PCGS holder graded AU55. My lesson was learned....
....never submit and "cross at any grade."
Lewy, I need your attribution skills.
Also, what color is the toning in your opinion.....you're an artsy person!!! image

Given your vast numismatic skills Bully, I highly doubt that you need a young pup such as I to tell you that it is a 106.

As far as the 'toning' goes, I must be honest and say that my monitor is acting up and color is flashing like Christmas lights , so I really hate to venture a guess, as I can't really distinguish the toning........................But wait a minute, .......I actually ' am ' young and reckless, so let me say brown and purple.

Yeah Bully, I see what you mean about that eclipse gaze. Very beautiful portrait. I have noticed that she looks very different in various years, sometimes serous, sometimes anxious, and sometimes that Mona Lisa grin. I think that this one is my favorite. She just looks kinda goofy in 1837-39.

I really can't believe that you guys were just going to let this thread drift away like that. I have more on the way, for the sole purpose of posting pictures. These are going to be a step up (for me) from my normal G-VG coins.

Dang, that's pretty, kaz! Gotta get me one of them.

Lewy, I decided my excessively dark 1833 needed a quick, gentle dip. We'll see if PCGS is okay about it. Sometimes stripping the tarnish reveals disappointing surfaces. Not sure what to think here. I didn't want to over do it so it was about 3-5 seconds. (This is only the second dip for me...I hate doing it. But sometimes a coin is so darkly toned it loses appeal. Don't yell at me!)

If PCGS condemns it/me I'll send it to you. That's punishment enough.
    Lance.

I kept rubbing my eyes Kaz, but it just didn't help much. I really love doubling like that.

I know that most folks 'poo-poo' a dip, but I like to see the coin, and I like what you've done Lance. I have never seen a before and after photo before, and I am absolutely amazed at the improvement. Fabulous!

I got one today, unfortunately, it is a variety that I already have an example of: JR-1d (supposedly R-5). So I guess that this is doubling of the other kind.

Yeah, you got that right Jim. That 'is' the big one as far as I am concerned. Only the second one that I have seen as the first one was early in this thread posted by jdillane. I guess that they are much scarcer than I had previously thought.

I have also noticed that 1837 is a date that has not been shown much either, so even though it is one of those goofy looking portraits, I think that I will concentrate on that date for a while. Here is JR-7b (supposed R5).

I did realize that I need to image some more coins as I tend to not usually image

Last week, I let go of quite a few coins (CBH included) so I could focus on these reeded edge varieties. Seems like the last frontier as far as CBH goes.

I realize that it is all about condition, condition, condition, but I collect what I like, and to me it is all about cracks, cracks, cracks.

    Here are JR-2a & JR-2b. Both supposedly R-6.

HEY !!!! Where's everybody goin' ? We're not done yet. I still have a few interesting reeded edge to post, but I am trying to drag it out.

I am hoping I won't have to do this alone.

I'm sure that there are plenty more CBH out there that I haven't seen yet. There have been so many, I wouldn't know the difference even if some of the less spectacular ones were posted again.

Admit it Lewy, you're a crackhead! image

I generally focus on VF examples, but the 20/9 overdate and the colors sold me on this lower grade example:

Yeah Kaz, you've got me pegged....I'm a crackhead. That 1820 that you posted displays a date that is so sloppy, it is gorgeous. I love that sort of stuff too. (It is no 'crack' mind you, but still very neat) !

Yeah I agree Jim, that is a beautiful color on that 1817. I figured that you guys were saving some of the better ones for lean times like this.

Speaking of cracks, here is one of my favorites. I really like the perpendicular intersections at D and F. It is JR-23 (R-7).

Here is yet another 1837. This one is JR-15 (R-5). This coin has so many cracks that it would take many pictures to show them all. The main pups are the crack/broken star #1 on the obverse and the three cracks from the rim between 5 & 0 on the reverse.

I don't think I've seen so many chocolate beauties all at one time, bustchaser!

Great collection of cracked halves, Lewy. I like 'em all, but that 1837 in the ANACS holder has a very special look.

And, "Newbie"'s half has great color.

So many cool coins y'all have!
