I am a 3rd generation firefighter. My grandpa was hired in 1956 and my dad was hired in 1961, I began my career in 1981. For about a year all three of us were on the department at the same time.

My grandpa retired in 1982 and my dad retired in 2003 with 42 years on the job. I was promoted to Fire Chief in 2001 and will probably work another 5 years before I retire at the age of 52. Of course that could change depending on the political enviroment. If the politics are good I may stay longer, if they are bad I may go sooner. image

My daughter was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 2 (2003). My son was diagnosed with Type 1 when he was 17 on December 31, 2009. We were stunned that another child of ours had been diagnosed. Please, if you don't have a favorite charity, consider giving to the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation)
