  • A golfer using PEDs is no different than a NASCAR driver using them. It really serves no purpose. The only perceived advantage would be increased driving distance. If you go back to Tiger's first full year on tour, he was second in average to John Daly. This year he is 21st.

If he used them to recover from his surgery, so what? It obviously provided no benefits other than quicker recovery.

This is not true. PED's do so much more that just overall power. Strength, endurance, and even some would go as far as visison.

Just imagine swinging at 80% of your normal golf swing and the ball going further that 100% of your non-PED swing, even with a 7-iron.

There is so , so much more. Anyone wants to talk about it further, I would gladly having played D-I baseball in the heart of the steroid era I could tell you plently stories.

Since Woods was associated with this doctor, you might as wall just call him Barry Bonds, because the general public won't bother to look any deeper than the headline.

The thing is, Tiger Woods has always had a large group of "hatters" for many reasons... he's possibly the best golfer ever, and he's a black man in a predominantly white sport. General golf fans were dying to find a valid reason to publicly hate on him, and now that they have something, they're grabbing onto it like a dog on a bone. It's really sad to see Tiger's reputation take a dump simply because we found out he's doing things that a majority of the adults in this country do anyway. The only difference is, he does it with more money, and hotter women. Also, for every married man who cheats, there is typically another married woman on the other end.

I could not agree more with the stamina argument and PEDs. It is not so much driving distance, but if on the 16th hole par five on the fourth day of a tournament he is driving as far as the first day the PED's could really play a part. Greater recovery and increased ability to perform for a longer time in golf is an advantage.

Because he almost never uses his driver. He gets driver distance from a 3-wood with increased accuracy over using a driver. Plus, Tiger doesn't use the latest-and-greatest equipment like a lot of guys do. Remember Phil Mickelson's crack about Tiger's gear a couple years back? All that adds up to Tiger not being a top guy in driving distance. But if you ask any pro who the most powerful player is, they'll all say Tiger - just watch the way he CRUSHES his irons. It ain't all about distance off the tee. After all, "drive for show, putt for dough".

I am surprised that people are surprised at Tiger being associated with PEDs. He's a well-known workout fanatic and has put on a ton of muscle since turning pro. He's a LOT bigger than he was in 1997/98, that's for sure. I've been saying he was a strong suspect for at least 5 years.

If there is no PGA prohibition against using PEDs, there is no problem
    with TW using them.

TW is one of my fave golfers. I don't worship athletes or celebs
so I am not at all disappointed by any of his recent conduct; he
    is a great golfer.

About 80% of TW's lifetime earnings have come from sponsor and
endorsement money. His "clean" image made him rich; that is why
folks are a bit disgusted by the recent public revelations.

As it turns out, TW is a longtime hypocrite/liar/fraud. THAT is why
the story is sticking near page one.

For MANY years his "people" have been covering up his bad conduct.
That conduct was NOT a secret to the hundreds of folks who closely
interacted with him. ONLY the consumer-peasants who have funded
his lifestyle were fooled by his "family first" nonsense.

    ........................

Since golfers largely police themselves on the course, it is NOT unreasonable
to wonder if TW has always been more "honest" on the course than he has
    off the course.

The PGA really needs to look at the issue and put that element of the controversy
    to rest.

    ................................

Though it looks like somebody "hates" TW and is conspiring to bury him, I have
    my doubts.

Blowing open TW's conspiracy to defraud consumers is not the same as a
    conspiracy to bury him.

    .................................

NIKE is stuck. They cannot dump him.

ELY and SHLD are waiting in the wings.

There would be some fun irony if SHLD (Kmart/Sears) picked him
up after, in their previous incarnation, havng dumped Fuzzy Zoeller
for making an "inappropriate joke" about TW.

If NIKE booted TW, it is more likely that he would launch Tiger Woods
Golf, Inc. as a manufacturing competitior rather than go with ELY.
He could use the same slave-labor countries to mfg his stuff that
NIKE currently uses. NIKE is stuck with the one that brought 'em.

Tag Heuer (LVMH) - the world's largest maker of "luxury goods" -
could go either way. Their market tends not to make too many
    genuine moral/ethical judgements.

    ..........................

    Divorce is the perfect remedy.

He needs to escape that horrible prop that he used to perpetrate
his fraud. It will cost him a TON of money, but he will be MUCH
happier living the fun life that he has shown he prefers.

Hopefully, by Valentine's Day, TW will be on his way to freedom.

    ...........

Meanwhile, some elements of the MSM - those that have benefited
the most from some elements of the fraud - continue to protect their
    mealticket.

Ian Baker-Finch -- former PGA golfer-turned-announcer on CBS -- told the Sydney Morning Herald yesterday, "Mate, if I say one word about Tiger, I will get fired."
CBS had no comment, so far.

I suspect it is fairly easy for folks to find friendly doctors to
    write "legit" scrips.

    .......

Signs and Symptoms of PED use:

    •Personality change/mood swings
    •Euphoria/failure to recognize injury
    •Aggression/hostility/temper/flares
    •Physical/verbal abuse
    •Anxiety/tremor/insomnia
    •Defiance of rules
    •Depression
    •Decreased or increased appetite
    •Reluctance to talk about PEDs
    •Severe headaches
•Rapid gain in weight and muscle
    •Tendon strain/rupture
    •High blood pressure
    •Acne
    •Stretch marks
    •Premature balding
•Women: deep voice, facial hair, shrinking breasts
    •Men: breast enlargement, testicular atrophy

  • If Tiger Woods was using illegal and dangerous drugs, yet was not caught by drug testing, this just continues to decrease the incentives for any athlete to stay off them

When the media and law enforcement do a better at catching drug use than drug tests something is very wrong

as in the case of PEDs in baseball or even football, if they didn't help the players wouldn't be taking them. Quite frankly I would be shocked if he wasn't taking HGH or something new. Like I said, all the media has to do is name that doctor, and Tiger Woods in the same headline, and he's as good as guilty.
  • storm888storm888 Posts: 11,701 ✭✭✭
This Tag Heuer propaganda indicates why there seems
to be a lot of "outrage" present.

The sponsors ALL had a great athlete, but they insisted on
trying to sell him as a "great human."

    ...................

    Tag/LVMH Pitch...........

First golfer to win four consecutive major championships.

It is both his character and his achievements that make Tiger Woods unique.

He is the youngest placer to have won 3 green jackets, he won the US Open in 2000 by an incredible 15 shots, and he has a total of 9 major championships to his name.

In 2001 he became the first golfer in history to hold all four major titles at once. Outside of golf, Tiger is one of the greatest sports champions in history. {b}With his personality and his results, he is a perfect example of prestige and performance which are so important to TAG Heuer.

His personal obsession with results and perfection, his ability to withstand pressure, to meet expectations and exceed them, but also his love of discipline – all this makes him a natural partner for the brand.

Tiger Woods has been closely involved with the development of a completely new watch, the first professional golf watch specifically designed to meet the unique ergonomic requirements of the game.

    ..........................................

    Is the watch SNAD?

    Nope. Great watch.

The spokesman is at least a little SNAD, I guess.

My friend who works at the airport says all of the
30-foot long Tag posters with TW pimping the
watches were removed over the weekend.

he told his mistresses and likely others - I am not at all sure
that there is really a "morality" issue in play anywhere other
than in the minds of the anti-cheater crowd.

The hypocrisy is what has spawned much of the public disdain.

TW's conduct has LONG been on dispaly for anybody that saw him
out and about around the globe........AND in his own neighborhood.
    One of his local bars says his "nightly tab" was in the $1,500 range;
that establishment is an Orlando "hostess joint."

ALL of the folks around him knew the image was a fake. Consumers
of the products he pumps - based on his "clean" image - now know
it too and they are simply pist about being tricked/fooled.

Or, maybe he was a doc-shopper and had lots of "legit" docs.

Or, maybe he NEVER did any PEDs. He has repeatedly talked about how bad
such drugs are for young folks. Even folks with credibility problems often tell
    the truth about some things.

Since I think ALL drug laws are ridiculous, I am not vulnerable to getting mad

Main reason Steroids are used is to recover faster after an injury, not for strength or bulk.

A Golfer can get injured swinging, just like tennis or baseball.

Totally true - injury recovery, not strength. I have a buddy who is a PGA pro in CO. When he was younger, he added muscle to lengthen his drives. It totally messed up his swing, and he abandoned the regimen.

The woman is expected to sign a competing sponsorship agreement

UPDATE: People is also now reporting that Woods' wife is planning to leave him. A source says, "She's made up her mind. There's nothing to think about: he's never going to change."

The Mirror reports that Tiger Woods' wife Elin Nordegren may be seeing celebrity lawyer Sorrell Trope as soon as next week. According to the article, "Elin is believed to be planning to file for divorce in California -- where the couple have a home -- and not Florida, where they live." Filing for divorce in California would increase the chances that the couple's property would be split evenly between the two.

MSNBC's The Scoop quotes a source who says "she and Tiger are living separately now, but she'll be making this split very open and official right after Christmas."

Meanwhile, a source tells TMZ that Nordegren is "very close" to signing a contract with Puma, a rival of Nike, the apparel company with which Woods has long been affiliated. This report comes as Woods is struggling to keep his sponsors.

And, Charles Barkley and one of the 14 TW-mistresses are reportedly "paling around."

    His friends show support.........

More athletes and celebrities are beginning to weigh in on the fallout from Tiger Woods' sex scandal, offering advice or just adding another opinion to the mix.

Charles Barkley and Spike Lee say in an upcoming episode of "With All Due Respect" that they are worried about Woods. Barkley says the golfer has changed his cell phone number, which Barkley believes is a mistake. Celebrity friends are "the only people who understand what it's like," he says. The Hall of Fame power forward wants Woods to know that "we love you. If you need anything, pick up the phone."

Lee added that "if Charles Barkley and Michael Jordan can't get to him, and those are his boys, then other people are making bad moves."

Meanwhile, Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis congratulated Woods on his ability to juggle so many mistresses undetected for such a long stretch of time:

" You know, most of the time there's one or two, and you can't keep that a secret. So if he can balance 14 and keep it a secret, congrats. You know, at least he knows what he wants. He don't discriminate, he's not against people, he don't care what your job, what your background is....He knew what he was after."

Is anybody tracking sales of TW memorabilia during the past week?

I have friends who work at the Glenmoor Country Club in North Canton, Ohio. This is where most of the golfers stay when they're competing in the Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone Country Club in Akron. My buddy said Tiger Woods usually stays under the alias "Michael Barkley", taken from his two buddies Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley. I just remembered that after reading storm's post.

<< <i>I suspect it is fairly easy for folks to find friendly doctors to
    write "legit" scrips. >>

And doctors that write enough of the kind of scrips you're talking about usually end up facing charges......kinda like Tiger's doctor. And a scrip written by a "friendly" doctor is still illegal.
