<< <i>Does anyone have an idea how many of these the mint can produce in a day/week? >>
It may be more dependent on blank availability. I am hoping too that it is more logistical problems on the first wave of deliveries (they have the coins but not enough supply of OGP).

I am aware of the blank shortage issue. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. Being that these are probably hand worked on a medals press, striked twice at high pressure and carefully (I hope) removed and placed in a capsule... I was curious to know how many they can produce per day or week, once they have the blanks.

OK...so it seems we agree that the Mint has somewhere between 4,000 and 5,000 on hand, ready to ship. These will be going to those that have a "in stock and reserved" and an initial ship date of 1/28. The question remains if the mint will shjp these without the book, or wait until the book is available. If it waits, then some of the 2/6 shipping people may get theirs in First Strike time also.
It should have been a larger piece to begin with, at least the same size at an original saint. If you're going to make something special as a one time issue, then make it something terrific and forget keeping as low a price point for the public. They'll whine @ anything that's ten points over melt anyway. Just how incredibly popular would the platinum anniversary set been had it consisted of a three 1 oz coin unc/proof/rev. proof in a similar fashion to the gold set? Instead we end up with something that was less than spectacular and destined for the scrapheap and melting pot. No offense to 1/2 oz collectors,

Everyone seems to have forgotten how the Mint shipped the Jefferson Liberty coins. After the fiasco shipping the Washington and Adams First Spouse Coins they held the Jefferson coins back and shipped the majority in one wave. As a result a large percentage were eligible for the FS gimmick. I have a suspicion they will do the same with the UHRs.
I agree..... they may already have 4000 or so on hand, but that does not mean they will ship immediately. They very well may hold off and then process all at once. Again, everyone has their own guess as to what the USMint will do. All I can say is be prepared to be surprised/disappointed......

That would have required just a little imagination which, as we all know, is in short supply along with planchets.

However, those were not given two different shipping dates on the first date of issue were they?

No.
The UHR (for me) has always shown a shipping date of 2/6. The Book started at 2/6, then moved to 2/7, and is now expected to ship on 2/9.
Just got off the phone with a manager at the mint regarding a different issue (my MVB spouse proof, order placed on 12/8, is still on hold and apparently stuck in a Groundhog Day loop) and I asked her about the UHR delivery. She gave me the default "6 to 9 months" (my order # is 30836xxx). It will be interesting to see how this saga drags out, especially if gold continues its recent climb...
....My 12:58 order/time is on hold but is now "In stock & reserved". Looks like around the 1st , PCGS will start the 30 day "clock" on FS. 1/2 hr later NOW "BACKORDERED" 2/10/09........No FS for me.
So...just wondering...what would happen if you hit the cancel button on the book, but not the coin...are you telling me the Mint's actually handing the book as a separate "item"?
Only the US government would split up the peanut button from the jelly!!!

Hit the cancel button on your coin and see if you get the book for free.
Looks as if these coins will NOT be shipping without the books.
Yesterday, my UHR was backordered to 2/6. Now it's backordered, along with the book, to 2/10.

I'm going to order a second UHR using my wife's account this PM...fortunately her account uses her maiden name. I'm also going to ship it to her work address.
We'll see how good the Mint's 1 per household ordering protocol works!
Come on guys (and gals)! When you post to say your order has gone "In Process", give us your order number!!! How else are we folks down on the list supposed to figure out where we are in the queue???
308306xx in stock and reserved Your order reuest is on hold. Order Date 1/22 12:42 PM 308278xx in stock and reserved Your order reuest is on hold. Order Date 1/22 12:24 PM

Also give us your last name so we can cancel your order and move up the queue.
My order 30828xxxx at 12:29am shows "in stock and reserved" on website but just received backorder email from US Mint. The shipping date has changed from 1/28 to 2/6 which matches the 2/6 shipping date for the book.
It seems that the US Mint will be shipping the coin and book together.

Good question.

If the mint made a 2oz piefort UHR at the same size as the original $20 coin. It'll cost a frikkin' fortune, but still, how awesome would that be??

<< <i>Why is it that the backorder for the coin is still the same date 2/06, and the backorder for the book progresses one number each day? >>
The book for my order is up to a ship date of 2/9.
Maybe they dont have a firm date yet for the book?

Same here. 2 - 3083xxxx and 2 - 3084xxxx are now all for 2/10 ship date along with the books.
Actually...if I decided to cancel the coin for some reason, I might just do that!

At least I'll have the fare to pay the boatman on my voyage to the underworld, aka Numismatist Heaven.
