My Dad just had a heart-attack...

RyGuyRyGuy Posts: 1,465 ✭✭✭
He's currently in the ICU after having an emergency angioplasty this morning. I just want to take this time to thank all of you on the forums for helping me keep my cool while awaiting for my flight from D.C. to Chicago. Reading the various threads is helping keep my mind from thinking the worse. Who would've thought numismatics could provide tranquility even in crazy times like these?

  • Sorry to hear that. I lost a brother many years ago to a different type of heart problem, and I can honestly say I know what you're going thru. Keep your chin up, bro

    My prayers are with you.
  • I will include your dad in my prayers. After having had 3 surgeries myself, in the last 10 months, and being incapacitated for that long (not a permanent condition, thankfully)there are a few very special people, without who's help I NEVER could have gotten through all this, that I give thanx for every day. I'll include your dad in my daily 'thanx, take care of these people' discussion with the guy upstairs. It's a crappy time for things like that to happen, but with the help of family/friends, you'll make it through these toughest of times. God bless you and your family, and give you all the strength to make it through all this.
I'll come up with something, eventually.
  • Praying everything will be OK.
    For YOU and DAD!!
  • I had a heart attack and the doctors did an angioplasty back in 2000. I was back to work a week later.
Your dad probably will be up and about in a similar time frame.
I had open heart surgery with 2 bypasses in 2004. That was a little rougher.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your Dad. As others have said, be strong for him, and offer him your support and caring. I, too, have had serious heart problems recently, but with proper care and the right diet and exercise he will be up and back to his old self soon. Best of luck to you both.

So sorry to hear about your Dad. My brother had the same happen to him on Thanksgiving. They put in a stint and he was back home Monday. My thoughts and prayers are with you for a recovery as quick as my brother had.

Thanks again everyone for the kind words. Just went and visited the old man, and he's stable right now, but he won't be home for Christmas image

Talks of open-heart surgery are currently going on. I arrived late due to a delay at O'Hare and didn't hear all the Doc had to say.

    Merry Christmas Eve's Eve all!

All the best to you and your family, particularly through the holidays. The good part is that he is under the care of doctors and that is great. He'll need support through his recovery. My dad didn't make it long enough for an ambulance on his first and fatal heart attack. It is amazing how quickly life turns sometimes. Onward and upward and hope for the best.

Again, thank-you all for the kind words. It really has made all the difference throughout the day. Also, thank-you to those offering their knowledge on the subject, its much appreciated. My Mom is a nurse and I tried approaching her to get an update, but she isn't up for talking at the moment, so I will definitely reach out to you all for answers when a question arises.

  • Positive thinking is a must. When my wife was near death for a week in the ICU with tubes, wires, and monitors, it was easy to be frightened. But the nurses said to smile, and talk about things to look forward to when she got better, and she did. (Fortunately, the MDs only told us later that it could have gone either way.)

Your dad will be OK ... tell him that, until he's convinced.
