I bought this one a few months ago.

It was described as follows: "Chile. Republic Silver Escudo Pattern 1828-IJ, this fascinating coin features the hand on book design for the gold Escudo which was adopted in 1838, yet this piece is clearly dated 1828. Nice toned F-VF, reeded edge, 3.29 grams. Very rare and the first we have recorded. Ex-Norweb Collection with the original envelope and noted as Brand as well."

Even though I think it's likely that this is a contemporary counterfeit and not a pattern, I still couldn't resist!

Oh my. Many of these coins have rays, my weakest spot!

Some are gold. That's bad for me too!

I will post my one Mexican Gold coin...hopefully it's not too close on the tails of my last post of this coin!

No rays on this coin, but I think the Aztec Calendar is mighty fine!

I nominate that south peruvian sunface coin as the greatest coin design of all time. The reverse has so many things on it i don't know how they fit them all on one side. A ship in the ocean,a spewing volcano, a cornucopia, and a castle of some sort among other things. And of course the sunface on the obverse. It has a majestic quality about it that you see in few other coins. It draws you to it. i will be looking to purchase one in the future. Bob

Found in a half-dollar junk box...probably there on account of the squishy rim.
