I went back to walmart tonight to finish out all the blasters they had, which were 7 more. I have now gone over 25 blasters
with NO INK. That kinda sucks but I guess isn't unexpected with the odds. I nailed a nice Derek Lee black refractor, one
refractor and a few chromes, one of them Joba. I am convinced now that I am destined to get a Joba master set.

I kept all my Perez packs sealed, if anyone is interested, I also have plenty of dups too. I am still looking for NAP 5 and autos, especially
Aparicio and Maz. Im hoping to pick up a T205 set tonight, but I might need those too.

Is anyone disappointed with how bad the centering is on many of the SP's? I have noticed that the News (higher number) sps are
    really hard to find centered.

Certainly Im not the only one who has been ripping tonight!

<< <i>this might be a dumb question, but what is the difference between a hobby box and a retail box?? >>

In the past not much, but this year, hobby has better odds, has original box toppers (1:2 boxes) and is ther only where
to find the hot hot hot Jon Smoltz variation.

    Welcome

Guys, just got back from the Pac-10 basketball tournament at the Staples Center in L.A., which was a phenomenal time - nine games in four days, great seats, good friends, my son was with me. What a weekend! I'll post details in a separate thread. I see this thread has generated lots of posts that I'll need to catch up on. Got some great Heritage mail in while I was gone too - couple black refractors, some relics, Johan Met variation, my end of a trade with Nick - I'll post pics of that too. Got some PMs to catch up with too - I wasn't ignoring you guys, just too busy watching hoops, plus my $200 a night hotel didn't provide free wi-fi so that I could post from my iPod touch.

Anyway, good to be back where I can sleep in a bed - I'll explain why in the separate thread.

I'm curious about the temptation to keep buying blasters at retail for people just trying to build one set. I did that a little last year, and it just didn't work out money-wise to keep buying blasters and getting 99% doubles that I couldn't sell and maybe one SP or chrome for trade.

Got a couple new black refractors in that go very nicely with the Ethier I pulled from my case. The Kemp is from Mark (mdkuom) and the Penny is from the Bay.

If its a 655 card master set, you'll need to ship it in 2 boxes. A 550 and a 400.

    950 X 70% fill due to thick card stock = 665

The #492 I got from a hobby box is probably 45/55 both L/R and top/bottom. I know what you're talking about though, I've seen many off center cards this year.

Remember my shock when I saw that the dual relic I pulled of Mazeroski and Bay went for $102.00 ????

Here's another one that sold..... maz and bay

I've had a couple of you say you're interested in this via PM, but I'm having a hard time not listing it if it's going to bring that kind of money.

I don't see how you couldn't list it if they are bringing that kind of money. That would cover a little over a third of another hobby case. image

My point exactly!! More boxes. image

In any event, it seems to bring more than the $10 I estimated it's value when I pulled it.

But like I said, some of the bigger heritage freaks here have expressed interest and I'd just assume they get it if they want it.

My wife is visiting her grandmother today which is 100 miles away. There are 2 Targets between here & there and none in this area. She already called me from one and picked up a retail box for me there.
    What a wife , huh !

She called again to say she actually got 60 packs at the 1st store and is grabbing 2 blasters at the 2nd. WoooooHooooo, gonna get my fix !

I see sellers putting Topps Heritage in their titles constantly when it's not Heritage Chris. That card has no Heritage logo nor is any subset named that as far as I know. This guy has lots of feedback at 100 %. Maybe he just made a mistake in listing.

Well as one of the freaks who wants it I will say sell it and get what you can. There is no way that card will ever be worth that much.
One player is above average at best and the other is a boarderline HOF'er. You can get an auto of Hank Aaron on card for that money.
Of course it only takes a few people who want the card to drive up prices.

In the end, I would rather look at my Yogi Berra auto than some variation card of Smoltz or a dual relic from two players who are
average at best. Heritage is quirky in that regards! Maz and Bay game used stuff will always be plentiful. Get what you can.

    Good Luck with it.

Well get to ripping Dave. I wasn't as good today as yesterday I just had to prove to myself that the blister packs were a waste of money....and I did. Walmart had 17 of the blisters, of which I purchased 17, they yielded 4 sp's and 1 chrome nothing else to mention.

Did anyone notice that some retail cards are "faded" or lighter in color on the back? and was that done on purpose (to designate "retail"). It wasn't all, just a couple per pack (green back only)

It looks like topps is just flooding the retail market with junk now. I opened 4 more walmart blasters and got nothing in any of them.
(haven't checked sps yet). The wrap on them was different that usual. It was still topps wrap but it was the easy to break kind, unlike
the tough stuff that my other blasters were wrapped in. I suggest if you find those to move on, they looked like the same as the
    blister packs!

wow - I was watching that when it was $111 and figured it would end around there >>

wonder how the guy that won the quoted auction feels about this one that closed on a BIN just 19 minutes earlier. Ouch.

Finally found some blasters at Target today. I haven't checked for SPs & semi-SPs yet, but I did get four chromes. I also pulled an extra Dodgers team card SP I needed for one of my yearly subsets in the first pack I opened, so that was cool.

edit: Just finished sorting my five blasters. 35 packs yielded 12 SPs (one of which I can use), three (not four like I thought) chromes, 28 semi SPs, the usual black backs & inserts, blah, blah, blah. No ink or relics, blah, blah, blah.

Now that I've opened Target blasters, I have a 205 wantlist and availables list.

I'm actually playing a fun challenge with myself right now to see if I can build the master set (655 cards, no Smoltz or Santana, and no chrome) for under $300. It's going to be tough. I initially bought three hobby boxes for $65 each. I also picked up a $40 lot off Ebay that helped fill in all of my black backs and a few SPs. Most importantly, so far I've made seven or eight trades here on the board. So, including postage for the trades, I'm hovering just under $250 right now. I have a small pile of doubles on my desk right now, and I have avoided the temptation of buying any retail.

At this point, I have 606 of the 655 cards. I'm 49 cards short, which includes one insert, 23 SPs, and 25 green-back semi SPs.

Since it is St. Patrick’s Day, I wanted to try my Irish luck. Considering I’m less than one quarter Irish (and orange at that), I think I did pretty well. I picked up two blasters at Target. They yielded a Dmitri Young CC, one refractor, one chrome, six SPs, two NAPs, and two BFs. However, there were NO black backs.

I figured I was doing OK, so I swung by the card store for a 57-dollar hobby box. I was jazzed when I saw the box topper had a Pirate card. I ended up with one black refractor, one refractor, three chromes eight SPs, two each of NAPs, TNs, BFs and NFs and 24 black backs. Not too shabby.

I’ll gladly trade the John Maine for an Adam LaRoche.

Has anyone sent in for replacements? If so what are the rules. Box UPCs and packs? I have quite a few with the bottom right corner and a bunch of my SPs have blue print marks. Hopefully tomorrow will be the first day to the PO in a while to mail out some traded stuff. Hopefully I can get my updated trade list up tomorrow.

Kevin, I have 3 autos I would be willing to move for refractors and GUd and of course a few other things on my want list. I'll be in touch. Hopefully the store I go to on Wednesday will have blasters. They are having a sale on all their cards for buy one and get one at 50% off....Pamida if any of you have those in your area.

Think it's just "59" for the year.

Possibly, but i don't think so. Brooksie didn't do much in 59.

And now that I think of it what is the significance of the 9 under his name?

Didn't he wear the number 5?

maybe it does have to to with the year. But like I said he didn't even play in 100 games that year.

    Good for you.

    Kevin--- Congrats--- GREAT pull.

Got this second hand, but reliable source. Dealer I know did a show this past Saturday (approx. 40 dealers). He had a fairly large quanity of 08 Heritage. Sold a large amount of product. Quickest sellers were the "greenbacks" that have the 110 black back counterparts. Next were chromes and SPs. He had a friend check for any Smoltz or Santana variations with the other dealers. As far as they could tell there were zero of either one there. Some dealers were unaware that there was a variation. So, if you attend a show in the near future, it may be worth your time to go through the "commons". Craig in Ohio (all Heritage collectors are nutz.)

Steve, all the stadium seat relics in the heritage product this year have the 59 on them because this years heritage is in the design of the 1959 Topps baseball cards.
