2007 Allen and Ginter

Not to hijack this thread - just a temporary aside - if anyone is doing the 02 chrome heritage set, then watch out for certain no-name cards that turn out to be VERY difficult to find anywhere. Most cards can be had for ~$5-$6 each, but the jeter / clemens / maddux will certainly set you back $20 each. I was lucky - got mine as part of a heritage lot I bought locally. There are a couple of guys (I know all 3 of them) that are bidding aggressively on anything that shows up on ebay nowadays.

The toughies from the standard 2002 heritage (ichiro / a-rod / bonds / gwynn / pujols ) are NOT in the chrome set. Watch out for Daryl Kile and Mark Phillips - each will set you back $30-40 if waiting on ebay. Someone hoarded all the mark phillips upon release of the set - maybe it was mark phillips himself. Not sure how daryl kile got to be so tough, but I was forewarned by one of the above unnamed threesome. I do NOT have the financial stomach to attack the 2001 set. Unless I fall into a good chunk of it cheaply. I'd rather spend the $3k on HOF rookies from 53-69

If anyone does have heritage needs still, drop me a note, I've got way over a thousand extra sp's spread fairly evenly from 2001-2007.

The 02 heritage set was one of my favorite, I just love that classic design. I even pulled a high number buy back back in 2002. I sold
all of my chromes except for a lone Pedro Martinez. 2002 marks the last of the pure chrome sets. 2001 was numbered to 552 and 2002
was numbered to 553. After that you had parallel sets...refractors and black chromes. I believe that you would recoup at least 25
bucks for any chrome you pulled in 2001, and if you hit one of the big stars you could get much more than that.

Player collectors are starting to pay big time for some of these releases. I think as collectors start to look back at the great sets, they
are realized what gems heritage and A&G are. Every year I have more and more collectors wanting my back stock. I can't wait
for 08!

I never thought of collecting multiple flags..hmmm. I used to love the game RISK, this whole flag thing takes me back to those days.

Now that I have the last of my mini cards in the mail, I can't wait to sit down with my set and slowly look through them all. Im really
impressed by the bonus sets...flags, emperors and the snakes......why are they in there you might ask...cause its Allen and Ginter and
anything could be in there. I can't wait to see whats in there for next year!

Again, thanks for all the trades. I spent 3 days over on beckett trying to get the last remaining card I needed and met some very
disagreable people. I then found a PM in my box here or a great trader who didn't even ask for anything back in trade. I had some
cards he needed anyways, but the group of traders we have here are top notch!

Well, guys, I got zapped by the wax crack fairy yesterday. I told myself I was all done opening Ginter b/c it's just gotten to be too expensive now. Tough to get value out of ripping packs at this price point (about $90-100/box). I made a reasonable offer on 2 cases to a seller on ebay, but he wouldn't bite, so I continued my search and found a 16 ct blaster box case for $359.00 and shipping of $18.50. That's 128 packs or the equivelent of 5.33 hobby boxes with no shot at hitting a rip card and no box toppers. So, that's $70.83/box delivered to my door. It sucks to not have a shot at a rip card, but if I bought 24 hobby boxes worth of ginter via the 8 pack blaster boxes, I save over $600.00, which is substantial. I mean, I can buy nearly 5 Unripped Rip card for that! So I think I made the right move.

I should have the boxes later this week. I'll let you guys know how I make out! I predict that I will not get ONE single card that I need for my black border set, but that I'll get the last Geo Washington hair relic

Kevin, I always liked the 53s better than the 52s. I think that the 2002 heritage chromes are WAY undervalued when you consider they are just as tough as the 2001s and have been available (until recently) for about 1/3 the price.

This is technically a 2006 A&G question but if I was going to buy some '06 product would I be better of buying one hobby box or 4 blaster boxes for the same price? I'm guessing that if I was going to try to build a set it would be the 4 blasters but I probably won't be going that route (at least not a mini set). Any opinions would be greatly appreciated. If you just want a set, buy it already complete. It will be cheaper. If you want to rip packs and get the most for your money (and don't care about rip cards etc), blasters are a better value.

Inflated they are, but they fall one or two per case, and auctions selling them aren't as plentiful as they once were.

Hi Chris, I got mine through ebay. He just confirmed with me though that he is now out of blaster cases. I did see another one on there, but he was asking $399.99, plus shipping, so I didn't bother with them.

The guy I bought from was $359.99, plus $18.50 for shipping and then gave me his last case at $340 delivered with the other one - $340 is actually LESS than retail price on them for me, as we have 7% sales tax here in RI, thus I saved $2.22

Seriously though - show me Ginter at MSRP anywhere right now. Hobby cases are pushing $1150 delivered, which is $95.83/box. Granted, you get 2 relics/autos per box and the press plates and the box toppers and the rip cards in Hobby, which you'll never see in retail, but of those items, the box toppers are worthless junk, so I could personally care less on those. The Rip cards can be bought for about $100 on ebay and the plates usually suck anyway. The autos are only 2 per case and most of the relics are crap. I got one auto and 5 relics from my first 16 blasters (plus the one pack I haven't opened

). In hobby I would have gotten 1 auto and 9 relics on average. Close enough for me!

A 16 box blaster case is the equivelant of 5.33 hobby boxes. Thus, my 48 blaster boxes will be the same quantity of packs as 16 hobby boxes. They cost me $1096.00 delivered. That would cost me $1533.32 for 16 hobby boxes. A difference of $437.32 to spend apply towards what I miss out on by getting the retail packs. I think I can buy some pretty good stuff with that money, which would be far better than what I'd get in the hobby boxes.

Just wanted to give all you guys itching to crack some A&G a heads up. If you haven't been to your local K-Mart you may want to check for Blasters. I picked up 8 today from 2 differnet K-Mart's.
