I just got these in the mail from the latest Heritage auction. I've never won anything from an auction house before, but I now suspect Heritage also owns a packing peanut company.

These are two of the three Leroy Neiman posters distributed at Candlestick Park celebrating the Giants' 40 years in San Francisco. These are autographed by the artist and came with PSA/DNA certificates. I've always wanted a set, though I think they may well be worth more to others than to me. There's also a Willie Mays that I'll try to track down to complete the set. Oh, they're 18x24, so they're nicely sized for display. (Huge poster size posters are just tough to display, in my opinion.)

What a cr@ppy season it was for the Minnesota Twins in 1976!

Other than Hall of Famer Rod Carew with his .331 batting average, the '76 Twins really sucked! Attendance was AL's worst, their best pitcher was their relief pitcher, Bill Campbell (i.e., 17 wins). Dan Ford lead the team with 20 homers and Larry Hisle had 90 RBIs. Their best starting pitcher, and the only starter with double digit wins was Dave Goltz (i.e., 14-14).

Somehow Carew carried the team to a third place finish in their division with a 85-77 record (...only 5 games behind the first place Kansas City Royals (i.e., 90-72).

    Yikes!

P.S. A set registry neubian! image

    Lyman Bostock hit .323 with 153 hits and a .364 on-base % in 1976. I wouldn't say that sucked.

I'm sorry! I agree! The only thing about Lyman Bostock that sucked was his death at age 27. Who knows what kind of numbers he would have put-up with his hitting ability and having Rod Carew as his mentor!

    Sad!

I guess I can adjust my earlier post to correctly say that it was, "Bostock and Carew who carried an otherwise soft Twins team in 1976"!

    rd

P.S. Here is my 1976 Lyman Bostock card from my set registry! Lyman was called-up and played 98 games in 1975 with the Twins (...also played 22 games with Tacoma in 1975!), but this 1976 card is his rookie card, as far as I know!

Yeah, he does. That's one reason I don't really love the Bonds poster. He has had a goatee in the past, but not often and not for long.

Can you imagine if the 55 Bowman baseball had the SAME design!

Here is some modern shiny "crap" It is the Box loader T3 I had a friend get auto'ed. IMHO it looks much nicer than the autos from the set

<< <i>Two more HOFers for the set (Finks is in as an Administrator, not a player...but he's still a HOFer!)

    imageimage >>

Great looking Bowman's! The Finks is awesome looking! One thing that I often wcrry about is trimming. For instance, look at the gap in the Pihos, where there is none in the Finks. I have several like that. I am not pointing it out to be critical...I am to ask you if this is common in your experiences? Do many of you guys see variation in card size in the bowman issues? >>

Well...after looking at the Pihos again, I'm pretty confident it isn't trimmed. In person it looks/measures about the right size. I think it just might have been a weird scan or sitting weird in the holder before.

Here's an updated scan I just did that makes it seem a little taller (the way it looks in person).

That's good to hear...it sucks spending big money on a card, and after gettting it and closely examining it, you suspect its trimmed. Unfortunately, I have had it happen several times. It drives me crazy when obviously trimmed cards make it into PSA holders. I have had cards that measured 2-3 cm off, and still PSA encapsulated them.

I'm still puzzled as to why it looks so much taller in person and in my scan than in the seller's. Ah well.

    Nice '55's by the way!

No offense Ali but those Steeler autographs are some of the most unrecognizable scribbles I've ever seen. I wish modern day players would just simply sign their names. Again, nothing personal - just a modern day player rant.

As a side note, here's my Baugh which I posted earlier in this thread:

Sometimes one of the sides gets "caught" in the holder and appears short. However, if you give it a slight tap, it's all good.

My two latest Mantles.....scans aren't that good, maybe time to get a new scanner. The '60 is one of the cleanest and sharpest I have seen. The scan doesn't do it justice! The upper right corner is actually sharp.
