Pulled my best pack by a MILE!!!!!!!!

    These three looked promising ....
    image

And then this guy showed up:
    image

And ---- I have a secret to admit:
I actually busted this pack several weeks ago and have already submitted the Yzerman to PSA under the $5 special. I pick up the package from FedEx later today and will scan in the graded card.

    Very exciting!

    the rest of the pack:
    - Nevin Markwart, Bruins
    - Craig Ramsey, Sabres
    - Clark Gillies, Isles
    - Larry Playfair, Sabres
    - Pat Riggin, Caps
    - Steve Larmer, Hawks
    - Charlie Simmer, Kings
    - Dennis Potvin, Isles
    - Mike Ramsey, Sabres
    - AJ Jensen, Caps

Here is the Yzerman, both raw and graded:

    then:
    image

    now:
    image

I thought it got a 9 --- but that was the other Yzerman I submitted (I had bought one a few months ago raw on ebay).

I'm happy overall with the 8, though honestly I'm not sure why it didn't 9.

In any case, it was an awesome feeling to pull this card from our back pust!

Nice Yzerman...i would say it was an 8 (and not a 9) due to the smudge on the top right corner.

    WOW!

I am absolutely LOVING this hockey bust so far --- my '87's were great --- pulled a stellar Adam Oates RC. It's a bit OC, a surefire 9 or 10 otherwise. I grew up in Minneapolis in the '80s and Dino Ciccarelli was my fav player as a kid until Brett Hull emerged (U of Minn Duluth alum).

Even with the centering, I may still submit the Oates using the $5 special this month.

Thanks again for organizing this bust, Bob. I'm already ready to do it again!

    -Tom

    PS '87-88 Pack in full:
-- Adam Oates RC, Red Wings
    -- Larry Robinson, Canadiens
    -- Patrik Sundstrom, Canucks
    -- Dino Ciccarelli, North Stars
    -- Bernie Federko, Blues
    -- Moe Mantha, Penguins
    -- Pat Flatley, Islanders
    -- Tim Bothwell, Blues
    -- Craig Hartsburg, North Stars
    -- Bill Ranford, Bruins
    -- Wendel Clark, Maple Leafs
    -- Tim Kerr, Flyers >>

1983 OPC Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrip! Two large packs, little results!

Most cards in both packs are qualifiers (OC).

Ray Allison, Lanny McDonald, Mike Palmateer, Rick Kehoe, Brian Mullen, Maple Leafs Scoring Leaders (Rick Vaive), Mark Osborne, Bob Sauve, Rod Lanhway (Caps Highlights!), Carrado Micalef, Rick Paterson, John Van Boxmeer, Don Spring, Stephen Konroyd, Harold Snepsts, Greg Terrion, Luc Dufour, Darcy Rota, Walt Poddubny, Dale Hunter, Devils Scoring Leaders (Steve Tambellini), Ron Flockhart, Steve Kasper, Billy Carroll, Murray Eaves, Gary Laskoski, Darryl Sutter, Record Breaker (Bossy), Record Breaker (Gretzky).

Wow! That's a ton of cards for 2 packs!

    rd

edit: Nice surfaces, too bad OPC didn't do a nicer job with their "paper cutter"? Would have been some really nice cards here. But I guess that is the same olde story for many (70s and early 80s) OPC years? image

Hello! This is only my second post! I wish I had been around when this was started as I probably would have participated! Just wanted to let you guys know that I'm working on the 1982 and 1983 O-Pee-Chee sets, so if you don't need your commons from these sets, let me know! I don't need them to be in mint condition, just as long as they're not wax- or gum-stained. Thanks a lot! Can't wait to see what you will pull from the 1982 OPC packs!

    Washington Leaders, Mike Gartner
    Tony McKegney, Nords

So, uh, yeah ..... as I mentioned before .... I kind of cheated on this rip ...

    Here is the Dionne NOW:
    image

Do OPC rough cuts prevent PSA 10's?

This card is a 10 without that rough cut. I'm telling you, it is flawless.

    EDITED TO ADD:
I'm not particularly attached to it if someone needs it for a set.

Tom, that Dionne is gorgeous. 10's are definitely possible with a rough cut - the one and only PSA 10 OPC Gretzky RC proves that - so they must have something else very slightly off on that card. Seeing that Dionne almost makes me want to do the '83 set... almost. image
  • Options
I'm tempted to crack it out and resubmit. What do I have to lose, really .... no chance it ever comes back an 8.

Pop report shows six 9's (one being mine) and one 10.

Only thing I can think of is the rough cut on the left edge is only about 80% of the edge. The top portion and bottom portion of the edge is not rough. There also appears to be the slightest of tilt. We're talking about maybe 5 degrees or less (top right corner of picture compared to bottom right corner of picture). The back is probably 60/40 l/r.

Still --- it's a breathtaking card. These OPC cards are simply beautiful when done right like this Dionne.

Well, no star power in my pack (based on the intro pack), but I like these cards! I really like the backs on them as well. Here's a look at a couple of them (bad centering, by the way)....

    image

...rest of the pack goes like this...

    Merlin Malinowski
    Anders Hedberg
    Paul Gardner
    Terry Ruskowski
    Bill Derlago In Action
    Danny Gare
    Al MacAdam
Dwight Foster (w/gum stuck on it)

....not a lot of star power, but I like the cards.

I really like these.... probably my second favorite behind the '85 Topps.

I simply LOVE the old Sabres uni's ... I cannot understand why they chose the "Buff-a-slug" logo/uni --- why not just go back to the originals ... SO classic. SO good.

Again, no major star power ---- but great condition overall.

    '81 Topps:
    Bobby Smith, Stars
    Jacques Richard, Nords
    Danny Gare, Sabres
