I'll let everyone know when the wax arrives here.

I'll update the first thread as packs are shipped.

Everyone will need to notify me when they get the packs and we'll start the rip once everyone has them in hand.

Sundays work for everyone? Or do we want to do Wednesday nights like the football rip did?

I suggest we start with 1989 and work backwards. A pack per week.

Opinions wanted.

Great idea. First price is SMR 9NQ, PSA Gem Mint 10 price is in parenthesis, high beckett seems to be around half the SMR of a PSA 9NQ. *Cards listed at the end of each year with just one price were not listed in the SMR but I felt were worthy of mentioning. The price is from Beckett.

I don't know? Steve didn't specify so I guess we'll get whatever he sends us. Is there a way of telling from the box or the wax packs?

As far as I know, the only way is to open one pack and check if it is West or East.

ok maybe this rip will turn me into a hockey collector yet. While at steves wherehouse i picked up a few 84-85 topps packs. I'm going to rip em and post results hopefully you guys can tell me if i pulled anything worth something?
I just couldn't resist these packs looked pretty in plastic

Raw I'd guess the regular Gretzky is $10-15. The All-Star is is probably about a $5 card (though yours is bit too off centered for that amount). Jari Kurri is also considered a "star" card. Might sell for $2 or so.

There is no way to tell without opening the first pack. I'm hoping for a West box as well, since that is where I need the most cards for my set. I've only cracked 1981 vending boxes before, never wax, and in the vending, the West subset is much tougher than the East.

Since we're getting pretty close to d-day, I just want to put a bug in everyone's ears that I am actively collecting 1981 Topps and Mike Bossy, so please keep me in mind if you pull any potential 9's or 10's.

Okay I cracked all the packs....er I mean boxes.

Some members have been inquiring about the extra opc packs. I want to wait till everyone has their packs before we discuss this. I'm 100% positive everyone will be happy with the outcome.

Everyone can refer to this pic to tell which pack is which year. Most of the packs do not have the year on them.

They run from 89 down to 80 from left to right.

All shipments will be double boxed with an assortment of packing peanuts/bubblewrap. Please be careful when you open the inner box.

My son and I have about 4 hours into this tonight. Thanks guys, that 4 hours alone was worth every cent.

I'll try to have everything in the mail by Saturday. Please notify me when your package arrives so we can start the rip once all have been received.

Thank you everyone but its really been a pleasure to do this. The time my son spent helping me on this has no monetary value. It was an added bonus for me. Again, the extra packs have been accounted for and I'd like to address it once everyone has their packs in hand. I'm 100% positive all will be happy once you see how it was settled. As for the box bottoms, I'll post what they were tonight when I have some time. They were quite good btw.

ALL boxes will be mailed tomorrow morning. (Sat. 10-14-06)
If the USPS comes through we could be ripping by next weekend.

Update 10-13-06 10:46 PM:

I just mailed every domestic package via Priority mail at the 24/7 kiosk at my local PO. The deposit box is full and will not open! Oops! I have the 3 Canadian packages left to mail and I will get them to the PO bright and early tomorrow morning. Total cost at PO tonight $125.00.

David, all 3 Canadian packages are marked as gifts with a $9.00 value.

Hopefully some of the closest destinations will arrive by Tuesday with the rest of you guys seeing your packs over the remainder of the week. The 3 Canadian packages will probably take 7-10 days. If customs jumps on them it could take much longer.

Please pm me or post here when your package arrives.

Michael,

There is a ripple/light crease running in on the right edge about half way down. Not sure if the scan is picking it up...kind of looks like a black dot in the scan. Even with a perfect cut I think the ripple/crease will get you a 5 at best.
