I am very happy to have landed this one; it is the second highest graded example on the pop report of a tough one (9 total graded).

Let’s see what you grabbed, CU!

Doesn't seem like much, but I think it is a desirable NBA board game.

Always looking for Mantle cards such as Stahl Meyer, 1954 Dan Dee, 1959 Bazooka, 1960 Post, 1952 Star Cal Decal, 1952 Tip Top Bread Labels, 1953-54 Briggs Meat, and other Topps, Bowman, and oddball Mantles.
Wonder why it wasn't Mantle MAYS and Snider?

Hi David - I gave my hypothesis on your thread about lobby cards.
After further thought and checking: as known - Mays was ROY in '51.
Just a guess on my part, but Irvin instead of Mays may help date this piece. Mays had a strong rookie year in 1951, but then entered military service in May 1952 and missed all of 1953.
During that period, Irvin was still the established Giants star, so choosing him alongside Mantle and Snider would make sense. Once Mays returned and exploded in 1954, I'd think he'd be the more obvious choice. Just a hypothesis.
Or simply put? This photo came out in early 1951 before Mays would be considered for that spot?
That AUTO is gorgeous and very well placed!!!
My PSA order that was due in June came in today. All going into my registry auto set:

Sam Mele played 10 major-league seasons (1947–56), finishing with a .267 lifetime average, 80 HR and 544 RBI.
Primarily an outfielder, Mele was a sure-handed defender—in 1952 he played 112 games in the outfield without committing an error. After his playing days he became a successful manager, going 524–436 (.546) with the Minnesota Twins.
His 1965 club won 102 games and the American League pennant before losing a seven-game World Series to Sandy Koufax and the Dodgers. Mele later spent many years as a scout and instructor with the Red Sox.
Very nice! I thought the player photos looked familiar: The photos are all from the 1969-70 Topps set but with different background colors. The exception is Pistol Pete - that image is from the 1971-72 Topps set.
Always loved the 1980s Gretzky cards. Added this nice PSA 8.
I am a sucker for a good $1 box. There’s someone at a local flea market that keeps putting out $1 boxes full of great stuff. This is the haul from this past weekend.
PSA HOF Baseball Postwar Rookies Set Registry- (Currently 82.54% Complete)
PSA Pro Football HOF Rookie Players Set Registry- (Currently 21.47% Complete)
Pulled this out of a pack this weekend
Prob overpaid a little but always loved this Ryan and never owed one.
Very nice Ryan! you say you probably overpaid but I bet whatever it was, you wouldn't be able to get it for that a year from now.
Vintage, weird, awesome and fun.
But enough about me…
🤣

@1951WheatiesPremium awesome cups! Never seen these before. I see a John McEnroe in there too. He won his first of 7 Grand Slam titles at the 1979 US Open (around the time of these 1979-80 cups).
collecting O-Pee-Chee (OPC) baseball cards
also collecting US & Canadian junk silver
Those cups are amazing and I remember those. Always weird that Kingman was the baseball guy.
@waxman - Thank you! You can probably put together a set on eBay in various conditions for not too much.
Belated, and for the above cups photo, I’ll add the following caption:
Bottom Row: Don Maloney, Pat Haden, Dave Kingman, John McEnroe, Hollywood Henderson
Top Row: Tony Dorsett, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Early Campbell

With everything else exploding, I'm steering away from the mega stars and grabbing other cards for my HOF RC set. Got these two within the last few days.

So I’m 1979 it launched with Bird, Magic, Haden, Maloney, Henderson and Campbell.
The lineup adds stars like Dorsett, Kingman, McEnroe in 1980, and later guys like Mike Schmidt and George Brett; the lineup of athletes changes a little bit each year while stretching into the mid 1980’s.

I'm gonna guess - Kingman who has 442 lifetime HR's - in '79 hit 48 HR's and had an OPS almost at 1.000; .288 BA but also had 131 SO's. 😵💫
Really sharp Tim - where did you locate it? Unopened would be really tough to find I would guess?
This just in today!
Goes in my Teddy ball tribute:
For real. DK was way before his time with all the power and all the Ks. He had a pretty great career while being on some historically horrible teams. Rumor was he was not a pleasant guy to have on your team though.
That's my understanding also.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
Cool card Chris!
Nice presentation!
THANKS MIKE!!!
This just in from Jon Richmond - early Boston pennant:
and I redid my Tribute to Teddy Ballgame:
Side note:
The SLU is from the '53 Season signed by Mgr Lou Boudreau - Williams batted 3rd.
The lineup was so specific that I was able to get the actual game.
September 2, 1953 (Wed) @ Detroit - Sox won 5-2
WP: Parnell; Williams went 1-3 with 1 RBI; Piersal 2-3
One for the O-Pee Chee collection - a nicely centered and pretty crisp PSA 7 of one of my favorites when I was growing up:

This is a tough picture pack, atypical for my norm, but I love these old team issues and couldn’t resist. A historic team with two amazing hurlers as babies!

emar - I don't see anything - probably only "you" see it? I fixed the URL and I think this is it?
EMAR'S Card.
Very nice card buddy!
Picked up 3 more HOFers for my mid-grade 56 set...When you give up being focused on PSA 8-9's there really are some nice mid grade cards available to own and appreciate.
Thank you!!
Hey y’all! Been a while! Mail day was good to me! Sending off the Yamamoto a little later, and one of the other 4 as well! Just not sure which one yet! Lol

Really nice cards!
Had a flashback - Lemon took over the Yanks twice and took them to the WS both times - won in '78 and lost in '81; I was in school in NYC when Billy Martin got canned and Lemon had a great comeback - ending the season with a 1 game playoff with Boston where Bucky F'in Dent hit a homer to win the playoff. Of course Reggie predicted they would win it all! 🤩
Added a couple all time great QB's to my collection.

Really strong 56s. Can't go wrong with any of them. Congrats!
really nice looking cards. i can not believe the montana is a six.
I don't collect alot of autos, but pick up my favorite players when I see them. Sad that Topps won't use the term "Indians" on Heritage cards.
Picked up three more for my HOF rookie collection. I have most of the players in the 80's. About time I bulk up on some 70's players.
Parker was the coolest dude around. Just a shame it took so long to get him in the HoF. Shameful.
That 74 may be my favorite photo on any card of his and he had some great images.
Just got this Mickey Mantle scrapbook. Don't know exactly what I've got, but I love it. 49 pages and hundreds of pictures of Mantle and Mantle collectibles. Must have taken hours to put this all together. I think this came from Sports Collectors Digest from around 2009 or 2010.

Awesome idea. I did the same over the last few years. Focusing on Limited run Tiffany, Glossy, etc sets from the 80’s. I see you got a glossy yourself. I picked up his Score glossy card.

I really like the Fleer Glossy cards, and as ugly as 88 looks, Ive grown to kinda love it. Ive been looking for a glossy Edgar Martinez in a 10 for a while now. Cheers!

David,
Nice one! Here’s the bulk of the articles online, too, if you need them for any reason.
Best,
Tim

In light of changes at SGC, I decided to try CGC. Pleased with grades, aligned with my grading eye. $18 a card, 4 month turnaround. I like the holder and label. These on line images are a bit washed out. Taking a wait and see approach - I'd use them again if they can stay 4 months or under.
