Some recent acquisitions, plus my coffee beverage of choice.
The Peace dollar is a downgrade from what I had (I "traded down" with a friend I owed a favor to), but it's a real lusterbomb. (That doesn't show in these pix.)
Saturday home brewed Red Eye time, today in Houston while visiting family. Luckily, my daughter in law has the same machine I do.
Below are pics of a new CBH; I haven’t bought one of these since CSNS several months ago. Spoiler alert: it just might be recognizable to one of our members (who happens to be a weekly contributor to this thread)!
This is the “available” 1827 Square Base 2 variety, O-125.1. It is a rock solid AU58 graded by CACG. The coin exhibits a nice original skin with frost & a cartwheel luster when rotated under the light. It even shows a “sparkle”, attesting to its originality.
Just received grades back for a handful of raw trade dollars, most of them destined to be re-homed but I am keeping a couple for my variety set. As a side note, Trueview image quality is leaving something to be desired. In hand, both of these coins are pretty dark, just like honest circulated coins should be.
76-S 2/2 Large S - This is a very tough variety, there are probably a few dozen extant in all conditions. As a textbook XF40, this is likely in the upper quadrant of the (hypothetical) census.
77-P RPD - To be honest, I don't care for this variety that much. It's minor and not that interesting despite the difficulty in finding an example. But, in the interest of completion, once I saw a decent VF I decided to add it.
Happy Saturday, gentlemen. Here is an irrestible new purchase I had to have: 1916 Irish Easter uprising medal by Walter Eberbach, Germany, 70mm. NGC MS64
It's a satirical medal used to mock British rule in Ireland. Death sits smoking a pipe and holding flowers after General Maxwell executed the Irish rebels. He is depicted as a gravedigger on the reverse, a shovel smashing through a Celtic harp.
Walter Eberbach made a series of medals like this during WWI. They were called "totentanz" in German or the "dance of death" in English. All very interesting. Eberbach wrote to a friend that he wanted "whoever holds the pieces in their hands years later to be overcome by the shudder grimness."

Good Morning Everyone!! I'm in the throes of re-organizing, consolidating, and getting rid of stuff that doesn't make sense in my collection (at least to me) targeting pieces for certification/recert. and throwing off the constraints of one particular album...
Blazing luster, no marks, perfectly original in every way, saved from the moment it came off the press in San Fran, I give you the finest 74-s half in existence. Happy Sat Gents.

Anyway, discussion turns to a couple coins he has for sale. CBH's, of course. You think he knows his audience?!

Oh, okay. No problem, he says.
We talk a bit more, and then before I leave ...

While I don't collect modern coins, I do enjoy finding old or better coins in change. To date, I haven't found the 2026 privty Washington quarter, but i do look at my change. Below is a matt that I recently acquired to help me find those better modern coins. Not sure why I am wasting my time.....
