The Coins of 1854...

lkeneficlkenefic Posts: 9,349 ✭✭✭✭✭

The recent 1826 thread got me looking through my collection, and I was surprised by how many coins I have dated 1854. It seems to have been a fascinating year across U.S. coinage, with Large Cents, Half Cents, Seated Liberty silver, and more.

I'll start with a few examples from my collection. If you've got anything dated 1854, I'd love to see it!

Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;

Successful BST transactions with: SilverEagles92; Ahrensdad; Smitty; GregHansen; Lablade; Mercury10c; copperflopper; whatsup; KISHU1; scrapman1077, crispy, canadanz, smallchange, robkool, Mission16, ranshdow, ibzman350, Fallguy, Collectorcoins, SurfinxHI, jwitten, Walkerguy21D, dsessom.

    I put a $10 ‘54S in with my CA pioneers. Great connection to the period. (The $20 is above my range.) Cool year.

    The 1854 $3.00, first year of issue, should be a separate type IMO (different reverse). Cool coin.

    The 1854-P Three Dollar was an odd purchase. I saw it at a show and offered the dealer a number I thought he’d refuse, but he took it.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?
