I avoided it by a few thousand sales, thankfully.

Backorder may be a good thing if you were planning to flip the set as you have plenty of time to cancel if demand for it doesn't materialize.

Where do you see the September 3 date please? On the "Order History" page, I see that my order is on backorder, but I do not see the September 3 date. Thx.

No. With hot new issues, demand typically materializes, and then fizzles as time goes on. As evidenced by buyers clubs wanting coins now, but telling people to cancel orders on backorder. "Plenty of time to cancel" means plenty of time to lose the opportunity to flip.

I think he means it may give you the opportunity to cancel your order if no one is buying. If you get a quick ship and it’s a flop you may be stuck with it.

Yes, as mbr33 posted. The US Mint product verification page also has updated information in real time. I first saw the update there. Just above the "ats" numbers.

Some of the flippers on eBay are now asking 1K and below it. Short term will be interesting to see if that holds up or down with the still unknown actual number of backorders.

We know the number of backorders. 10k

    This is not true.

    We use separate cards
Po box and physical for billing address and ship to our rentals.

Yeah, I decided that the additional 10,000, going from 20 to 30K would hurt flip quality and the prices on EBay have plummeted as of now and the ATS is still over 100, on BO for September of course. Dodged a bullet on that one. ;)

Again, you guys are missing one key aspect of this set. Demand could surface for the medal by itself and send prices for MS70/PR70 versions of the medals to the point that the gold becomes free.

People who just want the medal are going to wait for collectors to break up their sets. We don't know their demand yet.

I see it going for under mint price over time as metal prices correct further and all of the backorders ship to a lot of people who just bought it to flip anyway.

Good thing about backorder you get more time to cancel if they turn out to be a dud or price goes down.

101 TO GO! 4:30 hours and counting toward a sell-out. These will be back in dribs and drabs many times over the next few months, so you'll still have a shot at them if you missed out.

Hardly. Backorder almost guarantees it can't be flipped.

If it's a dud to begin with, though, it's a moot point and easier to cancel vs return.

Sure. But if you consider the Congratulatiions set, among others, you could have flipped the initial release for almost double the issue price but the latter release is struggling to hold the issue price.

Anyone who returns a "dud" because it can't be flipped should be charged a restocking fee and never be allowed to buy again. IMHO

I agree with returns and have never returned an item to the Mint that I purchased (though I'd also say that some returns are reasonable and justified). But canceling a pending back order that has yet to be fulfilled is a different story.

It’ll be back as orders are cancelled. Sounds like there are buyers who don’t want them anymore and others who won’t want to wait for September. With everything else to come this year, you have to remember to leave $810 in space on your card for September since that’s when they’ll charge you.

Further issues may arise if gold drops and the Mint price sinks. Woukd you keep an $810 backorder at that point, or does the Mint adjust your backorder price since they didn’t ship you yet?

30,000 is a LOT for a Mint Medal. It is unlikely to go anywhere near $800. I would be surprised if a 70 got to $300

    Then be surprised:
