It's an interesting die blunder, that appears to have had some attempt made to remove the UNI under-digits by lapping the die (which is quickly noticeable by the lack of tail feather detail on the eagle and arrow feathers).
I have two different AU53's, both 101a's, and an interesting story (well, probably more than one, but I'll keep it to one I hope).
Hopefully I am not derailing the image posts.
So my first 50C/UNI was part of the group of coins I had when I first became an Associate Member of the BHNC. In addition to welcome emails and forms and such, I was given the comprehensive Die Study information from the Club the day I was accepted. That happened to be a Saturday morning, and I spent the morning (and early afternoon) pouring over the data and marking my notes with the decimal Die State annotations that are now becoming more popular.
Oh yes, the "Fever" was strong!
Anyway, the Study of Die States had fascinated me since the beginning of my communication with the Club Secretary about 9 months before, and had been further increased by my sponsor and two primary mentors in the Club, who are all sometime or active members here. @lkeigwin@drddm and @ebriker
Anyway, lo and behold ... I found that I had a coin that we didn't seem to have a Die State for in that data. I studied the coin for a good half hour, and came back three times before dinner.
Finally, that same day, after lots of consideration and fear of sounding like a fool (on my first day!) I sent a note to Club have them check on the possibility that this was a later, unreported Die State.
Here's a snippet from my longer note that day;
"What I didn’t notice until comparing the die state notes I received this morning to some of the pictures of my collection, was that mine has a noticeable reverse crack from within the olive leaves, across the left wing tip and along bottom of UN.
Revisiting all the examples I could find before my eyes fuzzed out, and only Heritage 1174/4512 and 1201/4393 seem to have any trace of the crack, and even then it does not bridge the wing.
My pictures, attached, are the same coin as the former NGC 45CAC coin, Heritage 1184/8288.
My theory here is I have one of the last strikes prior to the dies being retired, where the clash, off-center strike and shift doubling all conspired to cause the reverse crack.

The following morning I received notes from other Club Members on the Die State Committee that this was indeed a newly reported state, and would be referenced as 101.3, an r.6? state.

The vaunted Doubled Liberty IHC (aka S-1) is not only a 5* variety, it’s the most important coin in the entire series! Casual collectors & even some of those that specialize in IHC’s consider the 1877 as the key date. A good case could be made that even the 1871 & 1872 dates are tougher. IMO, though, a “DL” like this one is THE date to acquire.
The last pic closeup shows the key features of the coin. There’s doubling in these areas: LIBERTY, the headband, the eye & front of the nose & mouth of the portrait, the inner ribbon, the feather tips & the ES in STATES & the OF AM.
When I saw this example, I thought it good fortune to be able to acquire it as these are seldom available in MS grades (plus the dealer had it priced under “pg”). My assessment is the coin is about 20% RD, qualifying it for the RB grade. Marks are consistent for MS64 + there are no issues. Strike is good as is eye appeal. The EEPS & CAC approvals enhance this piece.

Thanks... I had a rush of activity for Hard Times tokens at the end of last year. I had been looking at tougher Early Copper varieties and needed a respite from looking at AG Details coins! It's not often that one can fine nice early 19thC copper in AU to low MS condition... for less than $100!
Collecting: Dansco 7070; Middle Date Large Cents (VF-AU); Box of 20;
A new addition for my chopped trade dollar variety set. The FS-502 S/CC is much more scarce than the fairly common FS-501. The overmintmark is also a lot more subtle and, other than BU coins, one generally needs to rely on die markers to identify the coin. This is far from a perfect coin but my existing example is both dipped out and covered with tar and is pretty unattractive. This one is at least presentable.
Luckily, there are plenty of markers. The big die crack on the obverse going through star 1 and through the ocean down to the rim is one. On the reverse, big die cracks through United and Trade and spreading out along the top of the second S in States. The mintmark is also pretty far to the right to allow for the polished off C to the left. There is a tiny hint of the C remaining.

The Bearded Goddess! Even though I’m not a CBH collector, I recognize original when I see it. This one’s as natural as they come. The even wear makes it even more special. It’s really easy to imagine the look of this piece without the slab surrounding it.
I’ve posted a handful (3 or 4) of CBH’s I’ve acquired in this thread. To me, the series is overwhelming to the uninitiated like me, as there’s so much to know. I do pay close attention to the “CBH guys” when they post one of their treasures. Plus, you can’t beat their back & forth banter!
But even with them sharing their knowledge, plus a dealer friend that is a huge help with my selections, I think I’m only an occasional buyer of these special coins. They are definitely a joy, though & today’s is at or near the top!

Here is a 1834 Capped bust dime. It has great prooflike surfaces and toning. (FYI- It was once in an old NGC holder graded 68! Holly cow!.
My Saturday morning included receiving in the mail an EBay purchase of a 1952 proof set in a Whitman holder that contains a possible Cameo cent and a Superbird quarter.
When I opened the package and looked at the cent, my day became really good.

I'm a big fan of non-messed with early gold, although extremely hard to find and validate.
This one to me speaks to history as it is as it should be for any old time coin.
