I received notification my 20 coin CAC Submission had posted on 11/24 while I was waiting on the last leg of my flight back from my month in New Zealand. I thought about waiting to open the email until I got home, but you know that doesn't work well for people like us.
And then my jaw hit the floor.
Hmmmmmmm ...
Four of these are not like the others
16 passed
2 exceeded
2 not CAC
Really?!
18 for 20 with 2 Golds?!!
.
Here's the box getting opened earlier this week.
.
.
Also, just FYI, in case you want some of the backstory.
The submission contained 16 coins I was confident with, and 4 "maybes". Two of the four "maybes" didn't get a sticker.
Of the 10 CBH's, I had cracked 6 out of the holders I bought them in, and had them graded at PCGS before sending them to CAC. Four of those 6 upgraded at PCGS (one noticeably), one stayed the same, and one lost a "half" a point (58 to 55+). All 6 of those stickered. Also, @Davidk7 made the 1823 O-109 50c from a raw purchase, which I bought from him last year. The other two were how I bought them, and the one that didn't pass was noticeably the least probable of the group IMO.
The SLQ's are part of a raw set I started in 1991 and had graded in or around 2004, and the Merc's (except the one that didn't pass, ironically) I bought between '02 and '08.
I just bought the Indian recently, and although I wasn't sure how JA would see it (it was a "maybe" as I have never submitted any Indians to CAC), I thought the grade, color and "texture" were strong.
Ive started working on a World Coins from early America set. Apologies for the slight dark side lean here……..these were all types that saw plenty of action during colonial times and even through the early-mid 1800s as legal tender.

Happy Saturday everyone,
I am not an expert in this area but found this very interesting. The US Mint and the Redbook report mintage of 100 for the 1864 Large Motto 2 cent piece in proof condition. The PCGS pop report shows 61 in Brown, 122 in Red-Brown and 23 in Red. That totals is greater than 200 compared to the 100 mintage. I don't think that there are that many re-submissions. So I was curious on what the "real" mintage is. I called an expert dealer on this issue and he informed me that he thinks the mintage reported of 100 is not correct because he thinks the 100 mintage includes those that included for the full sets and did not include those coins minted for the minor sets. Either way whatever the real mintage is I love the example that I recently acquired but its safe to say that its not as rare as I thought.
Enjoy! (BTW - the picture doesn't do the coin any justice as its gorgeous in hand).
I always hear how just about every collectible coin has been “played with” but would you agree that that very nice DBQ is 100% original since being plucked from circulation?

Shout out to my friend Tom @pcgscacgold for a text on last Sunday morning as he saw a newp on a dealers website. He thought about it, I know, but decided to pass and asked me if I had seen it. I hadn't (we think it was only up an hour or less), and it didn't take me long to pull the trigger.
It had the right look (not bright, and with some patina and good luster), the right TPG (PCGS), the right grade (58), the right ornament (green bean) ... and was a 1827 Die Marriage I don't have, in the more difficult DS. Also, the price wasn't ridiculous and so all in all, I felt comfortable.
Mail arrived yesterday, and I was happy I pulled the trigger.

Just got the grading results back on these. Nothing extraordinary, just nice, wholesome, original skinned type coin examples that I was lucky enough to scoop up raw from my LCS. These came out of another collector’s completed 7070 album. There were a lot of details coins in there, but these were worth snagging. Will likely include these in future trades I suspect.

This year, I cherrypicked the finest known (MS-63) and the third finest known (a really nice MS-61) but, since neither was chopmarked, I sent them off to other collectors. I am aware of one chopmarked example but it is in very strong hands.
Anyway, I found another example, not nearly as nice as the others, and it's still not chopmarked, but I wanted to have an example to look at in hand whenever I want. Received it yesterday and still enjoying it this morning.
I came across these cello wrapped coins last night. I had completely forgotten about them. There are 16 silver dimes. 14 silver quarters, and 3 franklin Half dollars. I knew I had a bunch of cello wrapped cents in another box, but these are a different lot. Over 5 ounces of silver here on my desk. I might send 2 of the Franklins off to be graded too.

@SanctionII = nice post - did you play the course and if so what did you score? @Copperindian - Congrats on the dime - Thats the one I was eyeing but forgot to bid - Silly me.
Put this up on eBay for a customer who bought it at a local pawn shop after the clerk quoted him a price of 23 times for junk silver. He sold me $11.10 face value and asked me to list the aforementioned on eBay. It has some scrapes on the reverse rim…. but it makes my cup of coffee taste better not having a dime in it. The clerk should have been charging closer to forty times face value for junk …: since I paid him close to that for the other dimes.
