I always hear how just about every collectible coin has been “played with” but would you agree that that very nice DBQ is 100% original since being plucked from circulation?
Truthfully, I consider this to be literally the textbook example of originality.
And this is how it arrived right before my acquisition:

There are actually two under two different PCGS #s (with two more PCGS #s available; a total of 4 pcgs #s for the same chopmarked variety).
But some of that is selection bias; because there is not much of a premium for the 802 variety and it's so easy to spot, not many of the holdered coins have the variety attributed. At least that's my theory.
Put this up on eBay for a customer who bought it at a local pawn shop after the clerk quoted him a price of 23 times for junk silver. He sold me $11.10 face value and asked me to list the aforementioned on eBay. It has some scrapes on the reverse rim…. but it makes my cup of coffee taste better not having a dime in it. The clerk should have been charging closer to forty times face value for junk …: since I paid him close to that for the other dimes.

The 1938-D Walker 50C is a little overrated by collectors calling it a key date. JMO, but it’s fairly available in MS grades despite its low mintage. Maybe a semi-key?
This example was irresistible - beautiful blast white that looks natural. Could it have been dipped? Sure, but if so, a nice job.
Old 1.2 Gen holder that looks freshly made adds to the coin’s overall appeal. Grade? I think it’s fair @ MS64 - maybe a +. There’s enough minor scuffs to warrant it staying right where it is. Plus, there’s that holder.

Got this DCAM66 1853 Halfcrown for cheap at auction this last week. From the pictures it had looked to be the fairly rare Type I obverse but sadly was not. This iPhone 16 pro takes pictures that don't look as good as my old !1S and the flawless fields and cameo just aren't done justice. Still a beauty in hand: Loved my freshly ground French Roast Starbuck beans coffee this AM.

This key date has been elusive for many years - from both a financial & quality standpoint. Finally, this piece fills the bill. Grade is spot on & the bean is a bonus that’s important to me for a coin at this level. Very pretty in hand with a very light, even champagne toning throughout. The eye appeal is truly exceptional!
Already had my dark roast Italian hot coffee after breakfast and a cold brew at the farmers market.
Gorgeous quarter Copperindian! On my list for the future.

A nice 225 year old half eagle AU58 CAC to help celebrate the soon to be 250 year anniversary of our great country as we get ready to turn the calendar into 2026.
Pulling out some varieties to be re-holdered with the new TDV numbering system, enjoying the double row before it heads back to the SDB in a couple hours, and trying to get my ducks in a row for FUN.

A little different post today. With FUN upcoming, I usually line up a few buys pre-show. Below is the first one - I’ll have a second one from the show next Saturday.
Not a crusty beauty like so many of the CBH guys post (love those), but a toner (which I’m likely to be attracted to). The seller (whom many will recognize from the above top pic) is as good as it gets. Both of us like the toning & originality of this piece. Mint frost still abundant. With only this & one other CBH in my “vault”, I’m not addicted yet, but can see how that may come about someday.
Wonderful coins as always. I will share something with you all. I have not had a cup of coffee in about 30 years. Weird but true fact, it takes around 10 to 12 years for a human being to develop the enzymes needed to digest coffee. I learned this fact in 1997 when they shut my entire digestive system down for the first time. just for the record. Tea drinkers can also appreciate rare, rare coins. James

The 75-S/CC FS-501 overmintmark is well known but ultimately not that scarce of a major variety (in the trade dollar world; pretty darn scarce compared to most other series) that is commonly included in registry sets. Luckily, it is not included in the Dansco album so this one will fill the regular 75-S slot. Cherrypicked unattributed on eBay last week Please excuse my terrible pictures.
1808's are such a great year, and that looks like a wonderfully nice example! For some reason I see 08's as one of the hardest dates to find top flight 55's and 58's
Here is what is now officially my last coin of the year for 2025 ... a lovely 1827 O-117a from Dave Kahn ... which I purchased in early December.
