Anyone else pick-up a cool $2.5 as of late?
My only current example, just graded a couple days ago.
Why is the mint mark in the red circle and not in the green circle area ?
I've noticed some mint marks go in either spot for other years.
What is placed wherever someone decided to put it or was it mandated to be in a certain spot ?
Just wondering, because it seems it would look better to be centered under the shield & above the 2 of the 1/2.
Also, is the mint make upside-down ? Seems the S is inverted. Or is just me ?

MMs were hand punched and there were all sorts of variables in terms of location, size, etc across most (all?) coin types.

I don't think so but maybe. If you turn it upside down it looks more apparent that it's the right way up to me.

By the way, sorry, I forgot to compliment her. She looks great for 169 years-old.
I do like the way a circulated gold coin looks.
Not sure how I stumbled into this long-running older thread, but there are some absolutely stunning quarter eagles in here. Figured I'd add my QE dreck to bump the thread up

While this example would never win the “best in show” award, I liked it well enough to buy it. The XF40 grade seems right on, acknowledging wear & some strike weakness (common for this date). Actually has nice eye appeal, too!

Is machine doubling known on any of this series ?
I see something on a coin on Ebay which may have machine doubling.
Any info would be great.
Thanks,
Chris
I got this one back in early November…

Looking for an upgrade. This one I can say is cleaned but currently resides in an old 10 coin type set (Capital Plastics). I need a replacement.

Six pages of fantastic quarter eagles. Other than the above (very nice example), where are other early american gold?
Very tough date:
