My first commemorative gold dollar. I don't intend to fill the old Wayte Raymond page, but might consider getting the $2.50 coins some day. The other 20th century gold dollars aren't that interesting to me.
Found in pocket change Tuesday, and she's already spilling her guts. Research.
If only I had 2 black arrows, to rub against each other's tail, I'd roll out a red carpet to keep her safe.
She's like a duet, singing like a Singer, without their glasses.
Why?
You try to piece this puzzle of photos together to create the whole 1959 cent that I found.
I gave up at 55 % completed. I'll just wait until she's ready to tell me her WHOLE story. L.o.l..
What ?.................... Yes it's a 1959 double die, (phila). DO NOT DISTURB. Beauty needs sleep.

Not a usual purchase for me, but I was struck by the beauty of this >2000 year old coin.
Heritage had a recent write up about these:
MACEDONIAN KINGDOM. Perseus (179-168 BC). AR drachm (15mm, 2.71 gm, 7h). NGC MS 5/5 - 4/5. Pseudo-Rhodian, Greek mercenaries issue, ca. 175-170 BC, Ermias, magistrate. Head of Helios facing, turned slightly right, hair parted in center and swept to either side / EPMIAΣ, rose with single bud on tendril to right; Ξ-Ω flanking stem. SNG Keckman 793-795 (Thessaly).
The last independent king of Macedon, Perseus inherited the throne from his father Philip V after the latter had his pro-Roman son Demetrius executed. Thus the tone was set from the outset of his reign for an eventual clash, which proved fatal to the Antigonid monarchy and Macedonian independence. Perseus skillfully rebuilt the Macedonian army and a network of marriage alliances during the first years of his reign, which the Romans watched with rising alarm. The Third Macedonian War broke out in 171 BC, and for a time Perseus employed guerrilla tactics which gave him the initiative and kept the Romans on their heels. Like his father, though, he chose to risk all in a single pitched battle at Pydna and lost badly to the Roman general Lucius Aemilius Paullus. Perseus surrendered and was allowed to live out his life in comfortable captivity in Rome; the Macedonian Kingdom was divided into four theoretically autonomous Republics which were soon subsumed into direct Roman rule. The coinage of Perseus is one of the more attractive of the Hellenistic series.
I am working on full graded sets of United States coins from the period 1934 forward, probably to the end of the Walking Liberty series in 1947. I am missing four issues for 1935, one for 1936, all of the issues from 1937-1941 are complete, and I am missing two issues each from 1942 and 1943. Here is one for 1943 recently purchased:
And speaking of 1935, I have also knocked off one of the four missing:
Now awaiting this one. She completes Volume II of the two volume Wayte Raymond Albums for Large Cents. Woohoot! I'll post a GTG when I have coin in hand...

WOW,
I did the same as you back in 2002-2007, I followed the Walking Liberty halfs from 1933 to 1947 and built all the mints sets for those sets. Some of them are still ranked between 1 and 10 on the registry.

I do have my graded coins on NGC and mycollect, though they are private. I still have the 1934s, a 1935, a 1943 and the 1944s through 1947s to acquire in time. When adding the other denominations, it takes some time, not to mention finding quality coins that are more often than not MS66. I will go take a look.
Several years ago, I learned about the cool story of the 1861-O half dollars--First issued by the USA, then by Louisiana, then by the CSA. Somebody did the excurciating research to determine which die pair was struck by which authority.
I decided that I wanted one struck by the USA, one struck by the state of Louisiana, and one struck by the CSA. Louisiana and CSA examples are relatively easy to find (though the CSA ones can be expensive). But a USA one had eluded me.
Finally, I believe I got one! I'm not a risk-taker, but, using the excellent photos provided by Stack's Bowers, I felt confident enough that their attribution of W-01 (USA issue) was correct for a coin they had up for auction, and I bid on it. And got it.
I'll be submitting it to PCGS for attribution. I'm very pleased.
