Several years ago, I learned about the cool story of the 1861-O half dollars--First issued by the USA, then by Louisiana, then by the CSA. Somebody did the excurciating research to determine which die pair was struck by which authority.
I decided that I wanted one struck by the USA, one struck by the state of Louisiana, and one struck by the CSA. Louisiana and CSA examples are relatively easy to find (though the CSA ones can be expensive). But a USA one had eluded me.
Finally, I believe I got one! I'm not a risk-taker, but, using the excellent photos provided by Stack's Bowers, I felt confident enough that their attribution of W-01 (USA issue) was correct for a coin they had up for auction, and I bid on it. And got it.
I'll be submitting it to PCGS for attribution. I'm very pleased.
It looks like a WB-1 to me. Good luck with the attribution. Send as much info as you can, including the Stacks Bowers listing along with page 464 from Bill Bugert's New Orleans registry Part 2 for this die marriage. Assume the PCGS attribution folks collect Beanie Babies and not coins.
Fortunately, there isn't a reed count needed to identify the die marriage. PCGS doesn't do reed counts no matter how much you emphasize that it is necessary for the proper attribution that you paid for. They don't have the numismatic "chops" to do one, it seems.

Thanks very much for this; will do!
Yeah, I was using my look at Bugert's masterpiece, and the Stack's Bowers photos matched the four aspects perfectly for W-01. Then, when I got it, I took some very high-resolution photos, which showed it even better. I'll include copies of my photos, the Stack's Bowers photos, the SB listing, and a link to the SB listing.
It's very useful to know that I can do a bit to "help" them come to the correct conclusion.

The last of the three issues of the Winged Liberty Head dime in 1935, one step closer to completing a 1935 set, now only missing the half-dollar from San Francisco and the quarter from Denver.

This Kennedy had so much going for it.
I love the GEM surfaces.
I love the smooth goldish green toning.
I love the plastic snap holder it's in.
I love how it was just a few dollars over melt (from a seller who lists various non-coin items as a rule).
I love the free shipping.
@Mark said: @Old_Collector That sis an extremely nice Texas. Very subtlety pretty. And the it looks very clean. VERY clean!
Thanks, I missed your original reply. That one is indicative of the whole set of 13 except the 1934 that is very white and only a 66 that I'm working on upgrading. There were a lot of nice Texas Commems around last year, but not so much lately.

I thought the strike on this one is amazing. I had to purchase it:

1924-D PCGS MS64 (key, especially above MS63)

1926 TDO FS-101 PCGS MS66+ (pop 8/0 -- though I know of an MS67 unattributed)

1908 No Motto PCGS MS66+

1909 Alaska-Yukon X-Tn2 1/4 DWT PCGS MS65 (pop 1/0)

I don't collect these, but from a marks perspective, this looks like a high end 64. Is it stickered?

That 1891 might be a VAM-6A. I doubt there is a premium for it, but it is a fun and difficult to locate variety if so.

Another addition to my $2.50 Indian set which I’ve been slowly working on.
I love rattlers, this reminds me of one and even rattles a bit. Price was near bullion.

Was fortunate enough to secure an 85-S for my Morgan set.

Nice pickup! Really like the look of the coin (pretty clean for a 55), and the OGH with CAC finish in off nicely. Zack.
