A bittersweet new acquisition—very excited to add this PR67+ CAC with beautiful originality and iridescence, which becomes my highest graded WLH and will serve as my type example. However, I'll be parting with my 7-coin complete WLH Proof CAC set that's currently ranked #11 on PCGS, #5 on CAC, and #3 on MyCollect. (forum thread about the set)
Parting of the set?
Yes, I sold it at the ANA show yesterday and retired the set in the various registries this morning.
I was very badly outbid on the finest known examples a few months ago, so I saw this one at heritage and bought it, it's the lowest graded example but I like it. As far as I know It's R7 with an estimated population of ten in silver.
I took this one in as part of a swap. A positive & a negative, if I’m objective. The grade is low for what it is; there are two light obv marks. One on the rev. Kind of inconsequential overall. But the color, if graded today, would perhaps come out RB. The dark areas are a muted RD, which under today’s standards might be enough to call it RB. JMO. In hand, this coin has an outstanding, “almost RD” look. Eye appeal is pretty special.
I picked up this first altered 1884 nickel a few weeks ago and noticed the same seller had an 1886 for sale so I grabbed that one too (as these do belong together):
I am trying to figure out why these would have been carved back in contemporary times.
Those nickels look like recently struck counterfeits from China.

Although I just purchased the 1886 today, I've had the 1884 in my posession for a few weeks now.
It is definitely a contemporary carved nickel. The coin itself is a no question authentic coin and the carving technique is not modern.
@bramn8r As likely one of the few clad dime collectors, let me comment your dime looks nice. There is NO doubt that it's FB. Very impressive. Good pickup. Where did you find it? If it was online, I totally missed it.
It appears I was duped and the above V nickels truly are counterfeit.
I appreciate the patience and kindness of a forum member here who took the time to walk
me through an explanation on how these are not contemporary carved/altered genuine coins.
Oh well, color me embarrassed yet happy to learn something new today.

I found that one in a souvenir set. Let me know if you have anything on your wish list and I’ll see what I can do. I currently have a 95D graded the same.

I like these 2 cents, but it looks like there is a coating on them. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Came in Thursday. PCGS MS64

Pics taken outside in daylight. It was cloudy at the time.
Throw a coin enough times, and suppose one day it lands on its edge.

Something well outside my wheelhouse. Just too cool to pass up. I had seen these cents struck on dime planchets, but on an actual dime is pretty fun.

The seller's pics (it hasn't arrived yet):
I know it is a bit beat-up, but so many of these little dimes are and finding one with
the details of a VG is cool by me.

Thats a huge coin for any collection!!! Know you’ve been fully focused on these. Congratulations 🍻
Here’s a new purchase for my circulated type sets, I really like how this one looks 🌞

Mr_Spud
Love the look! A circ type set with that look would be a sight to behold.
Thanks, It’s getting there, might need a few upgrades to match the look, but I think it’s coming along ok.

Local coin show pickup. Always wanted an example. MS63 since the picture is not the best!!!
@MrSpud Every coin--every coin--you show for your circulated type set is a winner! Your set will be awesome when it is finished.
Love the look of that gold dollar @MrSpud!
Here’s a recent quarter eagle pick up that I had to have with a similar look.

Darn I thought I was the only owner of a textile toned 1964 Kennedy Half. Beautiful coin. I'll post mine if I can remember when I get home.
