I sometimes like to buy oddities like this when they are cheap. Love the concept of First Strike on a pre 2000 coin even though the coin itself is nothing special.
Then I took a chance on this 1921 High Relief. The online pictures were awful, but I thought I spied that it is VAM 3 (line through L). Not that I care much about the VAM, but it is a HOT 50 and the coin looked pretty decent to me so I took a chance:
And here's some decent photography:
Overall I think this is a very nice MS64 that should cross with ease.
This was my only pickup from FUN—wasn't looking for it, but wanted a souvenir and I can't seem to resist fully toned choice proof Barbers in older holders, esp. if CAC'd. Thanks Sanchez Currency of Miami.
I decided to trade my PCGS 64RB for this CACG example. I had (have) all 3 color designations of this very tough 4* rated S-1 variety. Great rev clash on these! The RB I had was one I really didn’t like, so this trade was an improvement & then some. Much better eye appeal + (drum roll), it’s “double stickered”.
New Liberty half dime proof arrived today—she'll replace a 1838 AU58 CAC example, continuing a trend of trading out business strikes for proofs in my type set(s). 1872 had a mintage of 950 proof examples.
I especially like this era of proofs w/originality, in OGHs w/CAC approval, so this coin will feel right at home alongside a handful of Barbers in similar dressage. Obverse has an antique look; reverse shows off nice blue color.
This is the best I could do with iPhone photos; the mirrors are pretty flashy for a 62, although I didn't highlight them directly in the photos. I'll have her sent for professional glamour shots in the coming weeks/months.
A shout out to Mike @MWALLACE who alerted me that this Love Token was on Ebay. Thanks for the message. I really like the Seated Liberty Dime with my initials engraved on the reverse.

I picked this one up for just a little over spot. I figured I couldn’t go wrong being a Civil War date. I wasn’t sure if it was a lower MS or a high AU. The grade just came down today. I can live with that.

Yet another 5* winner compliments of @Desert Moon. Al has a very eclectic mix of quality, nicely photographed coins & is super great to deal with. Very deserving of my shameless plug!
You're killing it, Johnny! One day I need to take the time to submit my non-CAC coins to see if any make the cut. I'd start buying CAC replacements now, but I'd hate to replace one that may have stickered if I'd have just tried.
just received the 1909-s indian cent ngc ms 64 RB goes along with the 1909 indian cent pcgs ms 64 RB, 1909 vdb lincoln cent ngc ms 65 RB, 1909 vdb DDO pcgs ms 64 RD, 1909 ngc ms 64 RD, 1909 ngc proof 64 RD, 1909-s pcgs ms 63 RB, 1909 s/s ngc ms 64 RB, 1909-S VDB ngc ms 64 RB
@TOMTJC I have thought that a collection of 1909 cents would be a nifty collection. The S VDB has always held me back. But I surely enjoyed seeing your coins. The proof thrown in there was also a nice little surprise.
Dream come true part 1 was the 1796 25C F12 I bought @ the FUN show & posted a few weeks ago. That was the BIG one.
This one’s also special; I never thought I would have a shot at one. Opportunity knocked. Nice collectible grade for this one year type & with a green bean too. The 1793 half cent was among the first coins struck at the first US Mint.
I think the coin has nice eye appeal & a minimal amount of porosity (an issue that seems to plague these). The design elements are pretty well struck. The reverse is rotated to the degree the obv shows in the slab pic. Correctly holdered, the obv should appear 12/6 with the rev rotated. Someday I may get that corrected, but for now, I’m proud to own it!

Holy cow, a XF45!
I like conservative grading but this takes it to another level.🤯
Nice coin!

Finishing my date set of FEC from 1856-1858.

In hand the coin pops with luster under the surface toning. I have held a lot of 63 CACs before and I don’t see this as a 3 comparatively speaking

Picked this up this morning at Parsippany show for $12 over melt.

First five back from FUN submission

5/5
1898-P in 6 very rare in rattler 16/1 coin now with CAC

7/8 weak very hard to find as well in 4 with 65/9 initial pops now with CAC

89-S is a big coin in 5 so I thought this 4 example would go nicely with my 5 and 2PL CAC for the set. Now with CAC.

90-S in 4 is the best most collectors ever do. This one pairs nicely with my 5. Both with CAC

21-D new discovery to add to the 2016 Doily tracker here. 2nd known now with CAC

Johnny - 5/5! You’re the “CACmeister” - NICE group!
