You think it’s that specific grade, or do you think you might just really like a Choice AU (not necessarily excluding 50 or 53)…the ones that didn’t circulate long enough to lose much detail, but did circulate enough to gain some “skin” and character? 🙃
I feel like 50s and 53s can be “choice” as well, and it seems like I get a great value sometimes, since some collectors avoid them. This one just upgraded to 55 from 53cac, I figured it had the look that PCGS likes. Ironically, it’s one of the brighter and less original coins in the box. I don’t think it will have a problem getting stickered again as a 55.

I don't know. It might just be the AU series in general. Maybe the affordability factor for some key dates.
Can I tell the difference between a 53 and a 55? Can I submit a 53 with confidence knowing it will come back 55?... No way! But I see your point.

I realize I posted a coin to this thread already and that it was an 1838 RE half dollar in a PCGS OGH that I purchased off the PCGS BST over a decade ago and subsequently received a gold CAC sticker, but I promise this is a different coin!
