Chris,
I opened up a 71/72 vending back in Feb 2024. I did okay but only landed around 10 PSA 9's from the box. Lots of centering issues and set #1 was lacking 8 for completion, set #2 lacked around 80 and set #3 lacked around 110. Did you notice how many cards you received in the box? I ask because my box contained 542 cards and was slightly larger than the vending boxes from other 70's boxes I have.

I did not keep track of the count. The cards I didn't grade were put back into the vending box and sold through Collect Auctions.

The one I opened maybe 10/11 years ago contained 524 cards I think. Have a spreadsheet detailing what was pulled somewhere.
That's a nice one. I'm a big fan of the 78s but they have the same terrible centering issues that every single late-70s Topps set had. I've been trying to put together a high end set for a while, but finding them centered that nicely is not easy.
That is a nice Dorsett! I've pulled and subbed about a dozen of those and an 8 is the best I could muster. Card stock makes 78s tough... they often have a tilt too.
Whoa! 50 year old vending box rip. Love the 73 set. Hoping to see you pull a bunch high grade action cards who's pics were shot on slow 100 ISO film Topps was too cheap to pay for the fast 400 iso...

Chris,
How many PSA 9s did you get from that 71/72 box? I am making an all PSA 9 set from 1971/72 and could have used a couple of those. I think my box yielded around 10 PSA 9 and zero 10s. I was pretty disappointed considering all the high quality cards that came from the rip.

I got eight 9's. They are all at Heritage for an upcoming Auction.

Chris…amazing rip as always! Great to see these vibrant gems. Thanks for sharing and congrats on the new place.
Beautiful card.
Looks like strong PSA 9 or PSA 10

Man, that's a beauty of a 5!
Send this card back in to PSA. A 5 is way to low.

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972
Unfortunately on this one...
The 71 basketball and 72 baseball are just so weird and totally iconic.
Such a cool set with the colors, weird portrait photos and crazy fonts.
A couple more pics to wrap things up....
I would keep that set and display them really cool vintage basketball.

Nice color on that one too. Beautiful card.

Opened a couple months ago....
Oh now. I love me some 73s. The quirkiest and weirdest photos of all time and I LOVE every one of them.
I just completed an condition upgrade to my 73 set by replacing about 100 cards.
Can't wait.
Wishing you luck on landing one (or more) of the big cards that end up grading 9's or 10's!!!
