In that case wishing you any of these Perez/Kaline/Carlton/Mays/Brock/Carew/Seaver/Bench in high grades.
Chris - calling dibs on any Bench cards you pull 😉 Hope you are doing well and doing any hunting this season?
KC
I got a nice 10 pointer this Fall!! Other than that living in a rental home for the past couple weeks waiting for the new home to finish up. Moving has been a colossal pain - we lived in our prior house 20 years.

Nice. Send me Pm with pics of the 10 when you get a chance. Knew you were in the process of moving and new place looked good from your previous photos. Plus you have a little land to work with 😉

I don't have a ton of pics to share. I took pics of the major hits in groups. When the dust settled many of the major hits were sent to PSA for grading and I will share those when available. The brunt of everything else was sent to Collect Auctions for their Spring 2025 Auction so that they may land with a set builder or someone else interested.

Nice start. I assume this came from the Fritsch vault? It'll be interesting to see how they look. I've only seen a few of those opened and have heard mixed results. They aren't FASC but also aren't boxes that have been floating around in the wilderness. Fritsch used vending boxes to build sets, so there's a possibility some/few of the boxes were picked on. Treetop had opened one of their 1971 vending boxes years ago and posted on here that he wasn't too happy with it. Others have had better luck. I hope this one yields many treasures for you.

This box originated from a former Topps's employee.
I had an aunt who was an executive secretary for Topps when they were in Brooklyn. She received a 1962 and a 1963 Presentation set. In turn she gave them to me when I was about 10. I wish I still had them. I broke them up and sold them off 20+ years ago.
I’m happy to see the odd collation going in your favor with all those Willie’s buddy!
Congratulations. Please let us know if you choose to grade - how it goes.
Ah memories. Garry Maddox?
Tho he spent most of his career with Philly, and given that he had only average power with around 100+ dingers, he did have 1800+ hits and a lifetime .285 BA and because of that lack of power, had IMO only an average OPS. He did have 8 gold gloves in the actual 14 yrs he played!
And sadly, one of the better players in MLB history to never make an all-star team.
One hell of a player and career IMO.
Me and a friend who are big MLB stat guys just happened to be speaking about him last Sunday.
On Willie. I remember he appeared a day late for Mets spring training in 1973 and left in the middle of it without notifying Yogi.
I was in school at the time in NYC - so it had some powerful resonation there.
Strange that centering on Carlton is all identical as if cut simultaneously on their stack of sheets but Kaline’s centering varies quite a bit. Wonder if Kaline is double printed which might allow for the variation.
Even with the centering. They are beautiful cards. The registration and color is so sharp starting with that Carew in the front.

No DP’s in 1973. Five series of 132 cards
And they didn't cut stacks of sheets in bulk. The position of the card on the sheet has the biggest bearing on the consistency in centering for a particular card.

Did they pack vending by the sheet, meaning you get a run from one sheet until the sheet is depleted, then they switch to the next sheet? If they have a consistent packing method, it seems that could be one way to verify whether a vending box has been searched and had cards swapped out. This is a general question and not meant to question this particular box.

No, Topps did not package vending by the sheet... although when there were series, Topps did package vending by series. But series releases usually consisted of two 132-card half sheets configured in different layouts. Fleer did pack their vending as you suggest, that's why a group of Fleer vending boxes #d 1 thru 4 will yield 3 full sets plus 20 random cards.
But by 1974, where there were no series, vending became pretty random. I do believe Topps had an ideal collation in mind for vending... where the cards repeatedly flip through all sheets (i.e. ABCDEFABCDEF...). But you will often see boxes where groups of cards cycle through some sheets (like ABC) before it switches to a group of cards that cycle through the remaining sheets (DEF)... and alternate that throughout the box. Then there are anomalies where just about anything occurs. There are 1975 vending boxes out there that contain only cards from the Brett/Yount sheet... which have been verified as authentic because they originated from cases in the Fritsch vault.

What cards numbers does that consist of?
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
Series 3 (cards numbered 265 to 396).

That's a great lineup of guys. Now, if there was the Kaline variation in there, that would be incredible.

You’re killin me Smalls!
@UFFDAH Hope you get 3 of each card plus a 4th and 5th card of Mays, Seaver, and Bench.
buying O-Pee-Chee (OPC) baseball
The Pin Stripe pattern of the opened box reminds me of the 73 Willie Mays....
Moving is defintely a pain.

Were the bulk of the cards nice?
Nice cards but O/C overall I would say.
The box itself was loaded and very fun to open. When you hit a major on the first card it perks you up !!

Interesting. Good luck with the break!
I will wait for a scan of the PSA-10 Bench...

Hope you get a bunch of stars in 9!!
I did take this pic I forgot about - a mix of centered cards and 2 Maddox Rookies
2/3 of the Earth is covered by water, the other 1/3 by Garry Maddox Rookie Cards - Ralph Kiner
A Mit Full of Mays.....
All in the same box? Awesome.
Yes.
Wowsa!
That’s a nice pile!

Thanx for sharing.
Perfect collation would give 3.8 of each card so 5 Mays is just slightly odd.
I love crisp, factory-fresh cards. Beautiful stuff!
The colors on those are amazing. Even if they still have that Topps 70s centering...

Man those are crisp. Just waiting patiently to see the Bench examples🤣
Very interesting to see the differences in color tone/saturation among the Kaline examples coming out of the same box.

Current obsession, all things Topps 1969 - 1972

Very nice HOF cards!!! What is your thoughts do believe any will grade 9's or dare say 10's?
NFL: Buffalo Bills & Green Bay Packers
I don't even try and guess anymore....
Thanks for all the info on 1973 DPs and cutting methods.
How is the centering on the Bench's? Hard to tell with the photos.
Chris,
I love those ‘73 Bench cards. The brightness and freshness of the
We cards are just amazing. And it appears you did very well on centering, too!
these, not the We
