I had owned an example of this Die Marriage for a couple of years, but really wasn't happy with the piece I had (it had some issues on the reverse), and so I decided to sell it last summer. For some CBH enthusiasts this is a cardinal sin ... "do not sell a good Die Marriage before you find a suitable replacement" ... but since I doubt I have the means to make a run past a specific point anyway, sometimes that logic doesn't seem to fit for me. I did okay on the sale, and hoped another I would like better would find me someday.

About two weeks ago now, I saw this coin on a dealers site I frequent but have done very little business with. It jumped out at me immediately. I waited a couple of days, considering her more carefully, and then wrote them. For reference, I'm not exactly sure why I haven't dealt with them much, as they always have nice coins and are a friendly and easy to deal with bunch. However, my records show this is only the second CBH I have purchased from them. Anyway, by the time we agreed, I sent a check and they shipped, it took a little bit to arrive, and I haven't had time to put her up until now.

The world of CBH's, especially early issues from the teens, are fraught with wonderful anomalies such as overdates, re-punching's, cracks, chips and clashes. Fascinating stuff, especially if you're into those things.

Die lines and lumps? Damage from a different punch? I'm not sure there has ever been a conclusive definition on this one, but the areas around the right wing on the reverse are fascinating to look at and ponder. Evidence of some of the mysteries at the early mint.

The grade we'll leave for a guess, and of course, since we have beans and stickers and other such ornaments, you can guess if it has one, or you think it might deserve one.
