Well, after a three plus year dearth of coinstar scores, I finally hit the jackpot!
Since retiring, I live hours away from any coinstar units but do visit my old haunts near the city occasionally. Since before COVID, I have mostly come up empty with the exception of a couple of stuck together cents . Yesterday however, while visiting one of my old local market haunts, I couldn’t believe my eyes when I was greeted by a very FULL reject bin! Three handfuls, and aside from a couple of Canadian coins and a button battery- ALL SILVER! I was so excited that I nearly blew a fuse! Sure helped cheer me up as I’ve been pretty sick for the past three weeks.
I know there are others here that love and appreciate these finds so I’m thrilled to be sharing this for all you fellow Coinstar aficionados- our loosly knit shameless scavenging community…….
Interestingly though, in my excitement, I couldn’t help but to think of Ricko, and fondly remembering just how excited he used to get when stuff like this was shared ;-)

Even found a suspected 1917 standing liberty quarter in there- no reverse stars.

So educate me. I've had zero experience with an coinstar's. These machines reject silver??

There is a reject bin that stuff drops into and some users neglect to check that before leaving to redeem their receipt for their deposited coinage.

I have been looking at all four locations in my area and have still not found a single coin. The only thing I can think of is someone gets there before I do. Early bird catches the coins I guess! I will keep on though as persistence will always eventually payoff.

Today, 11/4, took all 6 or 7 hand full to retrieve it all, no silver, lots of nickels and cents, total ~$5

Today's my daughter's birthday, stopped at Baskin Robbins to get her an ice-cream cake. Stopped at the Safeway and got my own present, a 43 quarter and a 54 dime, nice! My good deed rewarded!!

Well, today was the day. I finally got some change out of one of our local coinstars. I always pass them and look but to no avail they have always been empty until today. My wife and I were at Walmart. We checked out and we’re walking towards the exit when I switched places with her so I could glance in the reject tray and wow I stopped in my tracks like a deer in headlights. My wife saw it too as she always looks too. I was frozen in my footsteps! She had to nudge me and say well, aren’t you going to get it !!!! That’s when I had in my hand my first taste of success from a long time of looking. It was awesome. Here is the bounty.

We checked one of our coinstars today. Nothing, but my wife found 5 Lincoln’s throughout the checkout lane and walking out of the store. She’s an eagle eye for coins on the ground that’s for sure. And she isn’t afraid to pick them up either. She sure is a keeper!

I don't know what's going on, but in the last week, I found $2.50 in modern U.S coinage, three Canadian quarters and a Canadian dime. I live near a large international airport, so I can understand the foreign coins. And maybe I could understand someone leaving something like a Mercury dime in the till, because he / she might not know what it is.
And maybe there's one odd coin that someone forgot to pick up or didn't see.But I don't get the people who don't bother even to look to see what's there.

A good day at the local Coinstar machine, 14 modern US dimes, two US nickels, a US quarter, three small modern foreign coins, Australia 5 cents 1977, Barbados 10 cents 1995, Britain 5 pence 2004, and the most unusual which looked like a dirty US dime but was a 1943-D US steel cent.

Went to the grocery store today. Had the largest find yet out of our coinstar machine. Well, I should confess about how this played out to be honest. I went to cash in 2 lottery scratch offs and my wife went across to peek in the reject try of the coinstar. She hit the jackpot with a 64 silver dime, a Mexican 50 peso coin and misc clads and a couple of copper cents. But the kicker was that in the 6 dollar payout for the scratch offs they clerk gave me a star note ))). What a day I say!!!!

Over about a year of searching, I have found three silver dimes: 1919, 1942-S, and 1964-D, as well as several foreign coins and a few dollars worth of random change.

This is an accumulation of finds over the last week:
$2.49 in US, 51c in Canadian, a carwash token - a 1946 Dime and a 1963 quarter.

After a long dry spell these showed up last niht at my local Kroger.....
The coin in the center is a 2015 Columbia 100 pesos, the 1954 dime was on the floor in front of the machine and the 1960 dime was in the reject slot.

Looks like the local Publix coinstar does not like wheats?!?

Also, to CRHer, I dumped some metal detecting pennies in a coinstar one time, and it locked up the machine.
The clerk opened the machine, and started dumping the rejects in the trash!!!
I stopped him, and collected what was left.
I ended up with a couple Ike dollars, and some other random coins.You might bring in some bent coins and dump them in, and hope it locks it up?!?!
Worth a try.

That might work, I have some metal detecting coins, but if it doesn't jam, then I have to pay the fees.

Yesterday: a single zincoln on the ground, but as I walked by, I glanced in a small, nearby trash can, and lo and behold, 8 more stuck together cents! I quickly grabbed them and took off. The nearby cashier probably thought that I was crazy, but I was very pleased.

The 5 Kennedy's were not found in the return slot, this guy with some bags arrived at the coin star while my wife was shopping. I asked what he had, and what caught my interest was some rolls of half dollars. I paid him $2.50 for these 5 NIC Kennedy's just cause.
Later, my wife asked me to pick up her prescription at CVS, so I hit the coins stars across the street first, along with 3 modern quarters was this highly wore Mercury dime! The date is not complete, but it looks like 1918/19,,, It was a good day!
