This isn’t a series I’m too familiar with but I always take notice of the beautiful Barbers that @Eldorado9 posts from time to time. I really liked the look of this one, and the price was too good to pass on.
Not much left for my Bust dollar set, by die variety and die state. (Doubt I will be able to get both die states for this one.) 1798 BB-103, only 5 known to me.
The latest addition to my CBH collection comes from @Pnies20 . I did a few quick photos (sorry, amateur at best) to show off the obverse. None of the reverse photos were worthy of posting. Will work on that today. The surfaces are outstanding for an EF45 coin. The obverse and reverse edge toning glimmers as you rotate it in hand. Oranges, reds, golds, some greens and blues. Very excited to be able to add this coin to my collection. Many thanks to Pnies20. My first early date CBH.
Of the 11 CBH coins I now own, 9 have come from forum members.
Definitely off my beaten path of blast white coins but this one had a nice original look to it so I picked it up. Mintage for the 1938-D is very low, around 3,775 coins in total produced at the Denver mint. The production of the coin ran only five years: 1934 to 1938.
The coin represents the centennial of Texas’ Independence. The Alamo, Sam Houston and Stephen F Austin are all depicted on the reverse.
Sales of the coin never took off, initially being offered for $1 then $1.50 and by 1938 $2 each. Mintages below:
Took a while to arrive, as expected, via USPS Registered Mail. 1802/1 BB-235 / B-9 Bust dollar. The only one known finer is the Miller specimen at NGC AU58. As a variety, BB-235 is the rarest of all 1802 Bust dollars.
The real gravy is the die state. Die State III is extraordinarily rare and is characterized by a crack by stars 11-13 and another from the rim through the 0 in the date to the bust. Undoubtedly the finest of the die state.
I do need to correct myself. As improbable as it is, the Miller AU58 is Die State III as well.
I have noticed a peculiar characteristic in the 2023 BU Peace dollars. Tip it around in the light, looking at Liberty's cheek. Presents almost like a shallow depression. It is not evident on the proofs.

Not exactly sure what that is or where it’s from but it’s interesting for a coin.
