Finished my Peace Dollar date set

P0CKETCHANGEP0CKETCHANGE Posts: 3,817 ✭✭✭✭✭

Started ~2 years ago after I picked up the 1923 example for my type set that I really liked (all four of my side sets started this way). It's only a 10 coin set without the branch mints, so it's very approachable.

I'm a toner guy in almost every other series, but I love these big dollars bright and lustrous. That and a clean cheek were my main criteria. I thought about doing a CAC only set, but decided against it. I upgraded 3—the 1921, 1922 and 1927.

My favorite coin is the 1928, which I bought in a 64 holder and got it bumped to a 64+ on a Reconsideration submission. If I decide to sell the set, I'd probably keep that one even though it's not the highest grade.

Superb collections are built more by omission than by addition.

    Very, very nice! <3

Before I read the note, I was drawn to the images, and the 28 (and 35) just seemed like a "perfect" coins for such a set.

    Congratulations!

I'm also a toning fan, but Peace Dollars look great white or near white, especially when Very Choice and Gem

A great overall look and a beautiful set! Well-struck on the top of the facing wing, and strong definition and separation of the hair next to Liberty’s cheek. Congratulations!

What a fantastic accomplishment! I agree that peace dollars look great in white, I would probably opt to do the same if I were to do a date run. The ‘28 sure is hammered, I love the design when it’s fully struck out like that.

Great looking set. The 1923 looks like a real standout, as does the 1934.

That 1921 is incredible - especially for an MS63

Your 23 is also very white, rare with that date. Even though the 28 P is a rare date with low mintage, I think the 27 is actually harder to find in blast white. Yours is slightly toned - I finally upgraded my 27 to a blast white one and it’s now my favorite coin. Your 26 is outstanding - rhat is another one hard to get in blast white!

I have all the P mints but I do plan to get a few varied S and D mints … the 35S is stunning imo - one of the best S mint dates imo (in terms of blast white well struck, lustery, etc)

My guess is once he saw that great 1928, it only took him a few minutes to acquire it, lol. 😆

That’s exactly what happened. Someone tossed it on eBay for a reasonable BIN, and it was an insta-buy. And I got it upgraded to a 64+ in January, so I’ve had it for at least a year.
