    Today - GOLD $1,908.59 (+1.15) an ounce.

    Yesterday's visit to Empire Mine State Historic Park, site of one of the most successful hard rock gold mines in the United States. It operated up until 1956 and was subsequently acquired by the State of California when it was preserved as a State Park. With the price of gold at its current levels it has once again become feasible to open a new gold mine on adjacent property and reportedly two million dollars has been invested in that endeavor.

    Strange. This posting was posted more than a week ago. Not sure how it popped up here on July 19th?

    It this case, skier07 had the winning hand of quad 6's while the other player had the losing hand of quad 4's making that a bad beat and getting the largest share of the bad beat jackpot.

    Hand qualifications vary by casino.

    54 Years ago from today, on July 20, 1969 Man Landed on the Moon,

    I watched the moon landing on TV in Kobe, Japan. The TV was in the closest eating place to where I then resided. As I recall their specialty was Chicken Katsu, a deep fried breaded chicken cutlet. In retrospect it seems like that was the only thing on the menu.

    (Although I didn't realize it at the time, I learned years later that the eating location was part of the headquarters for the Yamaguchi branch of the Yakuza, the Japanese Mafia. In recent times, when Kobe suffered a devastating earthquake the Yakuza headquartered there made available, through their transportation connections, trucks to move the relief supplies throughout Kobe that had reached the close-by Church.
