Photos from visits to Pioneer Historic sites Today here in "Dixie" Utah so named from successful, although short lived, cotton growing efforts during the Civil War when cotton production in the Southern States was curtailed:

The Jacob Hamblin home:
Jacob Hamblin, here pictured with John Wesley Powell (the Powell of Lake Powell) assisting in the first exploration of The Grand Canyon. His skills in negotiating with the Native Americans to assure safe passage and maintain peace were invaluable to the both the expedition and the pioneers generally:
This week's Southern Utah stop at the home of the original pink frosted sugar cookie along with still being able to find glass bottled soft drinks in a bucket of ice.
Today's venture to Nevada's Great Basin National Park
Included was a drive to a high elevation where snow could still be found at a level where we also encountered a Mule Deer. Bighorn Sheep occupy the highest elevations of the Great Basin National Park and Antelope can be found at the base Basin level.
With the day coming to a close as we headed down to Baker, Nevada for a meal at the local diner:
Yesterday's Photo taken along Great Basin National Park's Island Forest Trail of the Bridge crossing Wheeler Creek. Wheeler Creek is one of the few creeks in Nevada that has water year round.
The tent weighed eighty pounds. Way too much. The later years could go seventy if it were tuned. They could run for days and load-rated at one ton. But if you did two of those at the time you got shoulder time.
This Weekend's " Jeeping" into Lake Tahoe's Eastern Foothills in the Sierra Nevadas with "The Indoor Boys," AND Driving into a Trail Washout along with Managing our Rescue:
After having fallen into the start of the gully where the trail had washed out the jeep became immobilized. Fortunately the vehicle was able to be backed out but there still remained the challenge of turning the vehicle around on the narrow trail that was only inches wider that the vehicle. Adding to the challenge was a huge boulder that blocked part of the trail. After backing up a distance and making it past the boulder the trail widened a bit at a point where a cliff dropped on one side.
With my son emulating the role of Indiana Jones, he inched the Jeep back and forth getting as close to the cliff as possible as I, the Dad, playing Sean Connery's role, signaled where to stop without going over it. Eventually we got it turned around with the self rescue a success. When I commented on the analogy, my son turned to me and said, "Just don't call me Junior, that is the name of the dog."
His best known character might be all about Philly, but the real Sylvester Stallone spent his recent birthday and the Fourth of July in nearby Nantucket.
The legendary actor turned 77 last Thursday and celebrated both his birthday and the nation's at a beach house in Monomoy
.
Seems the Tulsa King star was making like a local and shopping for his own seafood at the Nantucket Seafoods fish market.
Staff say he picked up some swordfish, steamers and even a key lime pie. Then he was kind enough to stick around and take several photos with the market's staff.
WhenI I was growing up, my Grampa always gave me these Texco Christmas specials on Christma day. This one looks like what I got one Christmas morning. Love the memories.

That bridge was built in the late 1800’s, and during a devastating flood in the 1930’s the center support was knocked down. Here is a picture from a postcard showing the bridge before the flood:
After the flood:
