Unexpected Completion: 1839 Mint Set

I like to put together mint sets as part of a larger type set, but I never actually thought I would actually complete an 1839 set with varieties:

Really cool pieces, and interesting to compare and contrast the varieties , especially the cents and gold…

Very nice small letters half, details though it is. Considering its rarity I'm surprised it's considered part of this set.

The small letters half is certainly the coin I never expected to get, and in hindsight I think I'm lucky it is details graded. A few months before I got it I tried bidding on a straight-graded sample, but found myself in an unwinnable bidding war.

I’ve always loved the coinage of 1836-1839, with so many transitions going on.
