Carson City Gold Grade posted. Would it cross to PCGS?

I’m considering trying to cross this coin from its NGC holder to PCGS during the summer Worlds Fair of Money. I value the expertise that forum members have and would appreciate your opinions on the grade. I’ll post the grade in 5 days. Thank you for your insight.

    Martin,
I owned a 84cc ten in 53 many years ago, this coin is much sharper.
    58/au63.

Tough coin. CoinFacts says there are only 8 uncirculated. 12 graded but no doubt there are a bunch of resubmits.

I will say 61 because of the obverse chatter.

@streeter i just did a little surfing. You are correct I’m probably a little low.
On that grade judging by other photos

Good luck on your cross Tommy

MS61, I was going to say AU58 but the stars have too much detail. Unfortunately a few strong hits from other coins. Still a beauty I wouldn't mind having.

Given the time period, was this lady in London at all? Meet a guy named Jack? :p

In all seriousness, the photos look like a MS62, IF the scratches aren't recent... if they are, and then it gets a details unc holder.

The lines on the neck are die gouges, which a number of different Carson City dies seem to have.

Nice coin. I don’t see any actual wear on it, but hits in the focal area (cheek & chin), and other chatter limit the grade -
I’m going to guess NGC62, crossing to PCGS61.

I’m going with 58+ as I see what could be the slightest of rub on Liberty’s hair. Very nice looking CC.

Solid 58... I'd resubmit and shoot for the MS60 or MS61 it deserves. It is a CC which should be factored in.

So I looked in Akers and Breen to see what they had to say about those die gouges in the neck. Breen says they are chisel marks and that the CC mint was unsuccessful in effacing them from the die before they went to press. Note there are also such marks at the I and T in LIBERTY.
Akers said all the 1884CC eagles he had seen had the die scratches in the neck, but he was not certain whether all specimens have such marks.

Wow, my first thought was ... huh. I can't tell.

    I think it's Unc. If so, it's probably a 61 or a 62. If not, it's a 58.

    Real helpful, huh?! :D

Would love to see it it in hand in Pittsburg before you submit.

    Ok streeter got me
Looking up this coin. At 62 it’s for a PG of 100k. The couple of 62s shown are nicer than the OPs the AU examples I checked out for the most part compare to the OPs coin for baggy but the OP coin has way less wear (Rub). It really comes Down to if the graders thinks it’s UNC or not. I don’t know if NGC thinks it a UNC if they do don’t crack it out what ever you do shoot for a cross

I wish you the best of luck on this tommy

    As to the cross question.
I’m more cautious commenting on this. Since it was sold by Stacks, it’s almost a guarantee it’s been to CAC and they don’t think so and even if they did, that’s no certainty either.
I definitely wouldn’t crack it and send in requiring a 61 grade. JMHO!
    Definitely a super looking coin!👍

Not too bad, per my guess, I kind of suspected that coin could/would end up a MS60 or MS61. If you would prefer it in a PCGS holder I would give it a shot. It's a great coin no matter what holder it may sit in.

Grade is NGC MS61. Battle born auction. Do you think that it’d cross to PCGS?

No. It would have been in a pcgs holder at the time of the battle born sale if it was going to cross.

Yes, and they are so distinctive that you can date the coin by them.
