    No. It's simply another way to participate in the hobby. You can certainly learn a lot as a member though. As @PerryHall mentioned, their monthly magazine (The Numismatist) is a great resource.

    Life Member well worth the money for the magazine. Like all organizations it has some minor issues but I want to support the hobby.

    I just renewed. I do enjoy the Numismatist, and I think it's nicely done in this era of disappearing periodicals.

    The organization has some issues, but it's our organization and not supporting them is probably worse than supporting them.

    Yes, I enjoy their magazine The Numismatist. They also have some great programs for young collectors. I was just recently telling my students how they can upload their report card to earn coins and a free initial membership.

    I became a member in November 1973. All ANA saw was 1973-2023 and so they've told me I'm emeritus. That means I no longer have to pay dues and I get the magazine for free. After I pointed out that I had converted to LM 22 years ago and already received those benefits... radio silence.

    I was a member for 27 years. I didn’t like the way the organization was being run so I quit. Would have been a 50 year member in 2021. No regrets.

    Yup. For a few years now.
    They and their Money Museum are only an hour away from me.
    Last year donated a few items including a possible electrotype counterfeit Flying Eagle cent.

    Coins are Neato!

    Was a member from 1969 to 1993, joined again in 2020 so I could submit to CAC, membership ran out May 1st and probably won't renew this year.

    I'm a life member and I worked there for close to 17 years. Always room for improvement and the best way to see that is to be active within the organization. Summer Seminar is coming up soon. Teaching both weeks. Hope to see you there.

    I appreciate this post because it stirred a few ideas regarding my current membership. I got an email from the ANA yesterday saying membership fees are increasing in September. Starting January 1st this year, NGC no longer recognizes an ANA membership to be allowed to submit coins to them. That was a big plus for me, and the original reason I joined years ago. Now the only ANA member use for me is entry into the ANA coin shows.

    I’m going to let my membership expire once it comes due, and save that expense.

    Last year, I took the ANA grading class taught by @Dreamcrusher

    It was the best money I’ve ever spent in this hobby. I’ve collected for 20+ years but got enormous value out of the in-person grading class.

    I will be attending summer seminar next month for the first time and have signed up for the ANA Counterfeit Detection class in October.

    IMHO, they've been in perpetual litigation about ridiculous stuff for most of the last 20 years, their former museum staff ripped off coins, the show sucks, but somehow they're a mix of bad and good... so I dropped my membership a long time ago. :smile:

    Given the number of years I’ve been paying dues, I should have become a life member. I am too old now.

    The Numismatist is a good magazine, but the organization has disappointed me with some of its stands and lack of support for collector issues over the years. The headquarters in Colorado is well worth the trip, but it’s a long trek out there.

    Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

    No. I get "hand-me-down" issues of the Numismatist and I do like the magazine. I also listen to a podcast now and then. But, I have had no interaction with the ANA outside of that.

    In your opinion, what are the key advantages to the collector in joining the ANA?

    I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.
