If a dirty Morgan Dollar was over-struck, and the dies were not wiped off for the next strike, the dirt pattern of the Morgan could be transferred on the next strike.

    Simple and concise explanation.

    Great explanation Dan!

It's still a very cool visual effect! Thanks for posting it @Nickpatton!

Me too! I'll patiently await the USPS tour of the old west to get to me about 20 minutes N of Carson City. Usually takes about a week, making several stops along the way....and maybe by Pony Express.

Same - on the return trip to Colorado / ANACS. Although I don't have the submission form filled out yet. Wow!

Really cool coin, but dang, may be buried at that price honestly.

With just 4 available to collectors, I'm guessing the buyer would do fine, but you need to be able to wait for the right buyer. It cannot be a distressed sale.

For example, there were 16 of these struck and originally sold for $2000 in 2013. This one resold for $2500 back in 2017 and is the only one I've ever seen offered.

The interesting thing about these is Dan writes these range from "satiny-matte to full cartwheel". It would be great to have photos of all 16 and I imagine some people might want more than one with those differences.

I didn't realize the mintage was so low. Yeah, not a terrible price considering.

Yeah, that's super low for a regular issue. Low mintage regular issues are really special.

Of course, there are one offs like the following too. I love how the two strikes are aligned on this one. Dan's very good at positioning second strikes so they come out looking really well. There's a lot of art to it. I actually won this on eBay while at the Moonlight Mint. My reception wasn't great inside so I stepped outside momentarily to win it and then back in to do more minting with Dan :)

Just saw this one again and wanted to bump it. Lots of memories on this one was I was at Dan's place when the auction for this went off!

Was looking at the 2016 Winged Liberty Head obverse / Walking Eagle reverse (both Weinman designed) o/s on Ike dollars.
    341 o/s of 40% silver Ike dollar (and 5 o/s on Peace dollar) = 346
    35 o/s on Cu-Ni Ike dollar.

It appears that the 40% o/s is still available, while the Cu-Ni o/s is not. Aside from those special o/s on a Peace dollar, the 35 Cu-Ni o/s will end up a relatively low mintage......sweet!

Excellent pieces! Love the train stamps. Hadn't paid attention until now, and just noticed that the broken sword reverse has only two rays below ONE...even though I own every other of Dan's broken sword Peace dollar pieces.

My shipment from Loveland arrived today. I must say, the 2022-CC Morgan in an incredibly gorgeous proof-like coin. Off to ANACS tomorrow. Thank you for the art, @dcarr

Unimportant to me, but of note: the flip inserts for the 2022-S and 2022-D Peace dollar pieces include "broken sword" on the insert - an error. Of the 2022 Peace issues, only the 2022 (P) has a broken sword reverse.

I have to say @dcarr you outdid yourself with the new Peace Dollars. Those are remarkable coins.

That 1922-D Morgan you did is a wow coin as well. So much so that I plan to buy the 2022 set of Morgans (even though I don't collect the Morgans you have done). Thanks for signing that insert, much appreciated.

Thanks for all that you do for the hobby.

If yours has not shipped, then it seems that you will quite possibly get the correct insert:
    .
    For the 2022-D Peace

    NOTE:
The first 17 released came with an incorrect paper insert that stated
“Broken Sword” instead of “High Relief”.

    .
    For the 2022-S Peace

    NOTE:
The first 20 released came with an incorrect paper insert that stated
“Broken Sword” instead of “High Relief”.

Has been a decade since I ordered something from US Mint. Been adding various Carr issued PEACE in mean time.
Seeing this offer I thought these Reverse Proofs would complement my odd & curious coinage archive:

    https://catalog.usmint.gov/morgan-peace-dollar-2023-two-coin-reverse-proof-set-23XS.html

Knowing how the Mint QC faltered back in 2013 I suspect my order will either get cancelled, quality will lack or who knows ???

As Daniel does not make Reverse Proof PEACE Bucks I updated my cc info which was vastly out of date, and password updates. I know may or may not get my 3 sets max orders a couple weeks ago. Not due till Christmas so I got time.

If these are beautifully executed, then I think they are great companions. Right ?
Or maybe Dan will offer something dated 2022 in Reverse proof and I'll cancel my US Mint order.

Hmmm, good idea but suspect that may take a bit more out of Danny's hide to do it. I too await the USM product of the reverse proof dollars but think the mintage WAAAAAAY too high....

    Love that Milled British (1830-1960)
    Well, just Love coins, period.

I am not expecting Dan to produce reverse proof Peace Dollar fantasy pieces. I would buy them if he did, but I'm not holding my breath.
My "Peace Dollar" collection contains pretty much everything from Dan and from the US Mint (except for US Mint 1922 high relief). My 2022 Moonlight Mint Peace Dollar purchases arrived at ANACS today. I'm looking forward to the 2023 US Mint Peace Dollar offerings. And, speaking of reverse proofs, I did add a 2022 "Fiji" reverse proof Peace Dollar to the collection - one of only three pieces in the collection that are not from Moonlight Mint or the US Mint.

By the way, does anyone track closed sales on the bay? Recently, there seems to be some nice items selling for healthy premiums:

    1. $750.00 - Daniel Carr 1874-CC Seated Liberty Dollar, over-struck on an 1871 SL Dollar. - auction with 1 bid

It would be great to have a site keep track of these sales.

    .
Thank you for sharing these sales - great information. Yes, some very impressive premiums!
I'm guessing that the 1874-CC has a smaller 'true premium' that some of the others. I'd need to get more than $750 to recoup cost of host coin acquisition, shipping to/from Moonlight Mint, Moonlight Mint o/s fee, cost of grading (shipping + grading fees), and eBay fees.

    I agree.

Same with the 1908-O (unless you had a cheap host coin sitting around). At that price it wouldn't cover my cost in the coin.
