Looks virtually flawless and lustrous. Looking at it on my phone, but having trouble finding any hits. A couple miniscule black dots. Awesome coin.

I submitted for grading this year a 1941 P MS Walker that looks similar to the 1942 P posted above.
My 1941 graded MS65 (I thought it would grade a 66).
So my guess for the 1942 P pictured above is MS66.

I see nothing that would preclude this from being a 67....and I'm generally a little stingy on walker GTGs.
The bloom, strike, and mark free surfaces warrant it, IMO.
I voted 67, although I think it actually looks better than my '42 in a PCGS 67 slab.
Looks like an upper tier 67 to me. Nice flashy luster with a decent strike and clean fields. If it's any lower, I'd be very disappointed.
The obverse looks MS65 to me and heck a True-View shot by Phil easily adds 2 points so I can see the higher guesses.
Yikes, thats a beautiful Walker, I'm going with 67 only because it's looks like the pics are trueview and not the actual coin pics in hand .

Intuition tells me that our OP is disappointed with the grade assigned so my top of the range guess is likely wrong.

What distractions do you see on the obverse that make it look 65 to you? Or is it a case of “ownership adds a point”, but lack of it subtracts one or two?

That ain't no 65, and it ain't no 66 either. That's at least a 67. Nice coin.
Based on the images, many of us agree with you. But we don’t know what the coin actually looks like in hand. I’ve learned not to be too surprised when grades are revealed.

Generally agree, although I'd still be slightly shocked if it came back less than 67.
That is a super WLH and an outstanding year,...... Booming luster, just a marvelous coin. I guess MS67.... and it is a 67 to me, no matter what the label says...

In the photo the only very tiny mark I could find is on the arm between the elbow and the hand. If the actual coin in hand looks as good as the picture I'd say MS68 or the graders needed another cup of coffee!
Very nice it’s not only about marks it strike and luster as well has two but needs just a little more strike but a very nice coin love it. I went with MS-66 but may make it into a 67 holder, I would of bought it.

I expected a 66 minimum and figured it had a real good shot at a 67. A MS65 grade is straight up nonsense. To put it bluntly, I'm kind of livid I waited 5 months to get a 65 on this coin.
It's being cracked as soon as it's back in hand.

I can grade and have been offered jobs as a grader. It's not a 65, nowhere near. This is just straight up botched. Guess it happens, but very frustrating. I have my issues with TV's but in this case, they're very accurate. Well struck, booming luster, free of marks, hairlines, or other defects. I'll post a gif of it once it's back in hand.

You may commence with your shock, however slight!!
For Walkers, 1942-P is perhaps the most submitted date, they come looking very, very nice with great luster and superb detail. At that and judging only from the picture, this coin exhibits a little central weakness on the reverse even as the obverse looks hammered. Most of the 1940's "P" mint coins look pretty good and this one looks exceptional.

Ouch! The five month wait on that one must sting a bit more than usual. I can't see a reason to call that a 65.

Send it economy - it will get a 7 then you will get charged $10 for a “service adjustment”. Sadly, it does not work the other way — you don’t get a refund for a regular submission that gets an “economy” grade.

Unless the photo is not accurate in some significant way, that does not look like a current 65 Walker to me.
The neck and face have hits and its not fully stuck up. I will say a 66 max..

As I mentioned above a similar 1941 P half I submitted in February, 2022 that I thought warranted an MS66 grade (shot 67) came back an MS65.

Then the question bears asking: Is the image in the OP an edited version of a TrueView or an image taken by the owner?? I would prefer to see an image of the TrueView for a better analysis. Opening the OP image in a different window to view a larger version it doesn't look as perfect, showing central strike weakness. Also, my experience has shown that I should trust the graders at PCGS(all 3-4 of them who assessed this coin in-hand) over a forum member viewing images of the coin, even if that might be the owner who considers himself an above average grader. Ownership skews perception no matter what we each think.
This isn't to say the coin wouldn't grade differently or higher if submitted again at any service level, but what would that prove?? Remember, this is a 1942 "P" mint coin, if it were a different date/mm combination it might be viewed differently by the PCGS graders.
